I got hayes HMX 1 disk brakes today, and havent put them on my bike yet becouse its in the shop getting finished up. I have a v brake set up on the fornt right now because i had to ride it before i had my disk brakes. My rear wheel is disk only, so if I put the disk brake on my front, i wont have rear brakes until i aford it.

Anyway, my question is will the caliper fit on the rear with an adaptor? They front and back on some brakes look the same. can I put the HMX 1 on the rear
?

Nevermind, i found the answer. Some calipers (depending on the company) are the same front and rear, and others are different. Hayes HMX 1's are the same front and rear.

i would rather ride with a disc brake up front and no rear brake, than Vs up front and a disc in the rear. Not to be too redundant on an obvious point, but 75% of the power is up front, and when u are bombing down a hill, its better to have the power and modulation of the 75 than a grabby 75% and modulated 25%.

The v brakes are teh ones with power and modulation, as long as you put the $$ into the V's. Example, shimano XTR V brakes are $110, and shimano deore disks are $110. The disks wont work and the V-s will throw you over the bars. That is an exageration on both patrs but do you get my point? This is one reason many trials riders are still with V brakes. Disks are getting MUCH better though, this analogy with probably be out of date by next year.
