Heya, just doing some market research and wondering how much you'd be willing to pay for powder coating.
$425??? I can't imagine a frame being nice enough to spend that on but not too nice to beat up a little(why else would you powder coat).
^^^^ and here in The Netherlands I can get it done for less than €50
(clear coating will cost extra)

Depends on the finish.
A single coat solid color is $75 at my local guy. Anything special/requires two coats is ~$100 depending on the powder.
If I want something fancy, I'll send it off to Spectrum powderworks.
But my customers foot the bill when it comes to paint. I offer single color with my frames and anything extra is the customers responsibility to pay the difference.

a can of engine spray paint per color (Duplicolor or XO Rust), and two cans of a quality clear coat.

The local powdercoat places here do bicycle frames for $75-$100 or so, more for some colors.

This cost $125, no matter how hard I tried to get it for less. I even offered a fish tank in trade(they had a lot of tanks in the office). The place charged on $50 if it was black or white or a color they were already doing on something else.

50$ would be about average around my hometown (st. peter's MO)
there are three or four people who offer the service so prices are VERY competitive. This is just my oppinion from dealing with them in regards to automotive parts.

Would you be willing to pay more for anodizing and powdercoating and /or just anodizing?
How bout a basic fade?
How much would you be willing to pay for a custom job including delivery?

I had an industrial powder-coating place do my conversion for 30$CDN but they mucked up the head-tube and only charged me 20$CDN. That was two years ago and the coating is still in perfect shape.
There's a guy around here that will do PC for about $50 if you get it sandblasted. I know another guy that does sandblasting for $25. I have also been quoted $100 for everthing at other shops.

In SE Michigan, mine cost $45 for the Fork, Stem, and Frame (all the same color -- Postal Blue :)). The guy specialized in bikes. He did charge me $30 more to have it media blasted by a friend of his (though I could have sanded it myself, it turned out better blasted), and another friend of his welded shut the bottle cage holes and some dents I had made filing off the brazes. Apparently he didn't charge me for that.
It turned out great. Superior Powdercoating is the ****.

where in canada???
If you guys are paying dirt cheap for powdercoating... where are you getting it done???
Heya, just doing some market research and wondering how much you'd be willing to pay for powder coating.its what the powder coater charges, not what you want to pay.

yah but at the same time if you are not willing to pay for the powder coat then you won't get it because it's not in your price range...
looking at Spectrum Powderworks... the prices I put up in the poll seem to be about the same that they would charge... even before knowing about the prices that they charge...
Mind you they give you the tip to see if you can ask for a bike box from a bike store to save you 30$ on a box... yeah certain places if you don't know where to look will sell you a specific bike box for 30$.
Also, in the poll, I did not specify anything about 1 coat 2 coats, etc... Just from asking around locally a few bike shops told me that if I can do a simple 1 color for 75$ I would be busier than I could think...
I find that hard to believe because after you have hit a certain market, plus have the rent and bills to pay 75$ a frame seems super cheap... custom paint jobs w/special treatment & powdercoating I believe should be in around 225$ and up... mind you not a lot of people would pay that because let's face it... people are cheap.
that said... I'm just trying to be realistic in research
(though I could have sanded it myself, it turned out better blasted)
I'm pretty sure you have to sandblast to prep for powder coating. IIRC, sanding doesn't work for some reason...
