Hello from little ole Rhode Island! Yes, welcome to a land where, if you want to do a century, you need to begin interloping on other states' property. Yes, I'm another road-biker. Last year, I did the MS-150 on a comfort bike my wife had given me as a wedding present. With shocks on the front. (Every pedal stroke uphill goes directly into those shocks). It was murder. My best average speed on that thing was 14.x mph or so. Also, my longest training ride was right about 50 miles.
This season, I decided that there was no way my buddies were going to make me eat dust. I went on eBay and got a nice Schwinn Passage (56cm) and some second-hand aerobars, and went to work. In the beginning, I was barely able to keep up with my training parter, Chris, but now, he gets smoked more often than not (it's been a 1700-mile season, even with the rain in the NE).
I'm always looking for new routes (when you live in such a small state, your options are pretty limited) and new folks to go riding with. I'm now averaging 150-200 miles per week, and my average time is up around 18-20 mph per ride.
I've got lots of questions, like, is the bike I bought even decent? I've got a triple crank, and Shimano RSX components, aluminum frame. I know carbon fiber is the thing, but unless I win the lottery or a contest, I don't think I'll ever afford one.
btw, I got lost on the MS-150 (I'm color-blind, followed wrong arrows. Such humiliation!) Hence the "location" and I seem to have a knack for hitting those potholes where the gas mains are on the road, hence the username.
...and if you're still reading,
See you in the forums! :)
