Foo - Need a good graphing program...

Hey guys I need a good graphing program. This semester my professors want everything graphed on a computer. I did a google search and couldn't find any that were actually good. Right now I just want something free as I have assignments due tomorow. I dont even need anything crazy. Just being able to set and label the axes while plotting a couple of points or writing in the equation. I tried excel and its horrible.

You don't know how to use Google?

I was just about to recommend Excel until I got to your last sentence. I'm definitely no MS shill, but I use Excel for most off my graphs, and some of them are pretty complicated. Anyway, try out the trial version of SigmaPlot- it's not crippled until 30 days.

What kind of graphing are we talking? Data or mathematical equations? If data, Excel or any other spreadsheet program is as good as anything. If you are talking mathematical equations, then it is MathCad.

OpenOffice Calc?

I've not used it, but heard it can do what you may be needing.

You can download Sun's version of OpenOffice by hitting pack.google.com, and pulling it from there.

Yes. I am not at school right now but obviously I can go in early and do it which I might I was just considering something while I am at home.

Maybe I am doing something wrong in excel. How do you create a graph? Insert - chart - ect...? is there a better way?

For now all I have to do is graph pressure density and temperature with standard, isothermal, and inverted atmospheric conditions from 0 to 10,000 meters. (three seperate graphs). For example for temp I have data points at sea level and 10,000 meters for temp and I know that for temperature the change is linear with +- .0065 degrees kelvin per meter. I think the problem is there needs to be 3 seperate equations with three seperate domains.

Of course, if you hate Excel, you'll probably end up hating OpenOffice Calc, being as they're practically the same program. Unless your hangup is on Microsoft, in which case you need some therapy. ;)

Dont worry about it :)

mathematica can graph anything. Course, you need to learn its non-intuative command structure first, and it's a heavy on the ping-ping.

If you want free just get OpenOffice.

Yup, MathCAD is the way to go ... if you have access to a license.
