Bicycle Mechanics - Anybody build their own repair stand?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was wondering if anybody here has built their own repair stand or have any ideas for a homemade repair stand?
I use the same idea at my shop. Chains hanging from the wall with a hook on one end and a bent piece of metal to hold your handle bars. It works well since you can rear both sides of the bike easily.
I have successfully used bungie cords to suspend my bike from the outer edge of the open garage door.

Why spend that 130 on that stand when you can spend it on your bike :D

Because you look like an ass with your bike hanging from the ceiling and garage door.

This is how this cheap guy solved the repair stand problem. That is a homebrew bike rack held to the garage pole with some 5$ ratchet straps. Sorry it is not a better picture. Plus it keeps the bike rack out of the way when it is not on the back of the car. It is handy, very stable and it holds the bike in two places, unlike some other repair stands.
Here is a link to other cheap guy ideas. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32865

Everything I have needed to do so far, tire changes, chain change, brake work, head bracket, lower bracket. I have a little stool on wheels. With it I just scoot around and work on what ever needs works.
BTW - I don't claim to be the USPS team mechanic with a universal solution. I'm just a guy trying to answering the original question of the thread and help a guy save some cash. :)

i know, it just looks like the bike would bob around alot.
I built one up from lumber...But I didn't have a way to clamp the bike down, which became a big problem the more I worked on bikes. So I bought an Ultimate something from supergo.
Here is the rack I made for two of my bikes. I used some left over 2x8's and 1x4's that I had. The tubes are protected by foam rubber pipe insulation that I picked up at a yard sale for a buck. A couple of nails for helmets and a couple of shelves and everything packs up pretty nicely.
Oh, yea. When I need to do minor repair I use 24" plant 'S' hooks from Home Depot. One under the seat and one under the stem and you are set. The bike swings a little but you get used to how to hold it. The best part is that they can hang on the side of the rack, out of the way when I'm not working on the bikes.

I took apart an old bike rack for the car that I don't use because we have a new one. I built a small table for it, with compartments for tools, both bike tools and regular tools. I built it out of many scraps of 1 by 3's that were lying around. I will try to get a picture of it in a little while.

(No, my house doesn't look like this! This is my basement!) :)
In case anyone, this is a Cannondale F300 that I modified...
Specs:
Cannondale CAAD2 frame (bah!!!!!!!!)
Shimano XT rear derailleur
Shimano LX front derailleur
Shimano LX crankset
Shimano LX 9 speed cassette
Shimano LX shifter set
Shimano SPD-M646 pedals (not on in these pictures)
I also have some bar ends that aren't on in this picture either, but they are nothing special. So, the bike isn't incredible, but it gets the job done. This was a 2000 Cannondale F300 that was trashed that I remade. I am looking into getting a CAAD4 or a CAAD5 frame in the future.
EDIT: I'm sorry that Geocities sucks... but these pictures are way to large to put on this page and I don't feel like resizing them.
