Hello, I was recently gifted an old motobecane bicycle with Huret components. I got a little crazy with the cleaning and took the shifters apart w/o having examined how they go together. Does anyone have any info or links that would help me get this great bike in order. thanks in advance
The shifters? Downtube? Stem? Can you lay out the parts and photo and post? You should have two sets of parts that are virtually identical except that one side will have a stop plate and lever reversed from the other side. After that it's just trial and error to reassemble in the proper sequence.

downtube shifters. unfortunately i'm not able to post a pic. I think i'll just wing it. I can usually figure this stuff out. thanks for your interst though
Since sheldon brown is such a francophile when it comes
to bikes I would suggest you e-mail him.
go to: Harris Cyclery (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/index.html) and follow the links.
Most friction shifters were pretty similiar in how they were
put together, if you check in the barnetts manuals you
should find an example that could help you out.

My dad's 1982 Motobecane has Huret derailleurs- lousy.
You didn't mention the model, but assuming it's the ubiquitous 1970s friction model, here's the sequence, from inside to out:
1. frame clamp
2. cable stop plate
3. lever
4. stop washer with right angle tab that fits into cable stop plate
5. pressure plate/domed washer
6. cover plate with logo
7. wing nut

I had a '74 Mirage w/Huret's. The stem shifter was the first thing to go along with the kickstand when I'd gotten bit by the roadie bug.
I grabbed a set of downtube shifters (I forget the brand) and that made all the difference in indexing the gears. Huret changers arent all bad.
