I bought a Dahon Speed P8 a few years ago, and after taking it home and riding it up a fairly steep hill, i disliked how twitchy the steering felt. So i returned it the same day, got my money back and bought a Bike Friday NWT and all was well.
But now I find myself wanting a second, inexpensive folder for commuting on the train that's quicker and easier to fold. I think the side-folding bikes look the easiest to fold. Riding speed isn't a big criteria for this bike, but i'd like to have the most stable steering possible. I looked at the Swift, but I'd prefer something that can fold smaller. The Bromptons are more than i want to spend.
Here's my question: Does the Downtube FS have more stable steering than most of the lower priced Dahons? Please remember I'd like to keep the price around the $500 mark, as I'm sure more expensive Dahons probably ride a lot better. thanks in advance.
