I was debating where to post this, and just feel more connection with my fellow Clydes. This is my second year doing this same charity century ride, called the Buffalo Bicycle Classic (http://www.buffalobicycleclassic.com/) in Boulder, Colorado. I used to cycle a lot in the early 1980s, and fell back in love with it last spring following a significant, slow, and medically directed weight loss program (150+ lbs). I had forgotten how much I love bicycling. How..free it makes me feel.

Ride Details:
Total Distance: 101.2 miles
Average Speed: 18.2 mph (includes everything: riding, 5 restroom stops, food break, redlights, getting lost and wandering around, etc.)

Total Time: 5:37 (includes all stops as mentioned above)
Average Heart Rate: 142 bpm (right in the range that I was shooting for...I did super well monitoring this during the ride).

Total Calories (HRM): 4887

My wife took a couple of pictures of me at the end of the ride. Here you go.

This is me cresting the top of the last hill at the finish line on my vintage 1988 Trek aluminum frame rig.

Me scarfing pasta, and wearing my new century-ride event hat after.

Despite some injuries this year that kept me off the bike for a couple of weeks at-a-time in late May and early July (bike wreck, and really hurt my back in an aerobic kick-boxing class with my wife...), I improved my time by 48 minutes over last year. I also did not bonk like I did last year. It was a nice, fun, beautiful ride.

Have fun out there!

That's phenomenal!

When you said the average included all of that do you mean you left at say noon and got back at 5:37?

Nope. I left at 7 AM and got back at 12:37. Sorry about that.

Damn, that's smoking fast! You must have been a helluva racer back in the day.

I've never raced bicycles, or done anything athletically competitive after high school. I was more into weight lifting "back in the day", but was never competitive about that either. I'm actually pretty competitive by nature, but was not blessed with a body that lends itself to competition sports. My body was built to work hard and moderatly heavy all day, like an old-school farmer (think throwing bails of hay around all day, plowing heavy clay with a mule, etc.). I'm not fast, very coordinated, or super-powerful, but have a lot of endurance for an guy of average height but stocky build.

I love to ride, though. Zoooommm.

I used to race and do century rides, and 5:37 is a rippin' fast total! I did a metric this past weekend and it took me 4:44:20, and I was happy with that. I could have finished a century, but not keeping the pace that I was doing (and it was still slower than your century pace.) Big ups on the awesome finish!

Incredible accomplishment. In my entire lifetime I only did one century that fast and at the time I was only 25, and weighed 180 pounds. Now I am fortunate to just be 6 hours.

Awesome, keep up the good work.

Outstanding! 5.5 hours might get me near a metric mark. But I've never been there.
