What is the world coming too when we are punishing women for skimpy clothing?

The best part was, if you caught the interview on the Today Show as it happened, they had to blur out her crotch as she sat down, due to her skirt not covering her enough.

No I didn't....that's classic. :roflmao:
yep, also it is a bit ironic to go back and watch the SW commercials from the 70s

Was that only on TV as it happened? I just watched the today show video on that link and I didn't see anything blurred out.

I did not see it myself. But I have heard reference of it on a few threads discussing her.
Even the msnbc thread off the article has someone mentioning it
As well as seeing a "shot" when she sat down on the show, she had to pull her top down to cover the top of her skirt on the show.

Her skirt was a bit small but both my wife and I thought that SW was over the top for trying to get her off the plane. I have seen much worse on flights before. The real issue is one person on the flight complained about her and they decided she should be removed. After discussion she was allowed to remain as long she covered up better. So one person decides? Why not take a vote?
In the video I saw a quick snatch of panty, but that's about all.
Yeah, if you watch online you see her undergarments... And who the heck wears something like that to a "Dr's appointment"???

The male steward who freaked out apparently saw a quick snatch too. Why did it bother him so much?

If it's a female kind of appointment, it probably doesn't really matter what she's wearing. ;)
Although I wouldn't wear what she did, I don't see a problem with the outfit, and Southwest was out of line. People need to grow thicker skin.

I agree with April.
People are too often too weird about other people's clothing. For example, there is a knucleheaded city councilman doing his part to retain Atlanta's laughing stock status with legislation to make it illegal to wear outerwear that doesn't completely hide your underwear. What a dope. But the sad part is that he isn't universally jeered for it. There are plenty of people who aren't even ashamed to say they agree with him!

This thread begs the question .... what do ACTUAL prostitutes wear to differentiate themselves these days from high school (in this case College) girls? :D

Ah, I see the problem...you lack confidence in your appearance, and you fear that people will be so offended that they'd rescind the freedom to dress as you please once they see you do it. Buck up, fella. How awful could it be?

Apparently SW doesn't fly out of Miami.
I think that airport gives discounts if you don't wear a bra and panties.

Nah it's more of "I'll let a hot girl do it" thing. It's not really uncommon to hear that they'd allow this kind of dress on her, but sneer "cover that **** up" to some girl thats 350lbs wearing the same thing in the same paragraph.
Some people are genuine on their want to have a freedom to choose what to wear, some people are just having a knee jerk reaction to how they'd feel if they took the eye candy off the flight.
That and I just wanna feel pretty in a short skirt D:

That's a good point. Yes, I think you are quite right about how some people feel about freedom for the other..."let them do as they please, as long as I like it."
Also, about wanting to feel pretty in a short skirt...thanks; you made me laugh out loud.

Apparently SW doesn't fly out of Miami.
The local Miami Fox station that ran the news spot did a poll. 76% of respondents thought the attire was appropriate for air travel. The remaining 24% live in the Adult living community in Coral Springs:)

Who punished her? Folks have a choice. The cafe says "No shoes, no shirt, no service", and each customer can chose to eat there or not.
Women who want to dress like a $5 hooker are free to do so, but they won't necessary be welcome, except by a business that caters to that sort of woman.
I just wish airlines were equally fussy about letting on passengers who don't shower every morning, and passengers who got their vocabulary from watching BET...not to mention the passengers who weigh 300 pounds and want half of my seat.

Actually South West also has a history of making larger customers purchase 2 tickets. They'll refund the second one at the destination if it wasn't necessary due to extra seating on the plane.

don't see what the big deal is about... PLENTY of people dress like that around here..and she's 23! Hell there are a lot younger women..no..correction..GIRLS..that wear that same outfit..to junior high/middle school out here..she's just sitting there on the plane with a magazine in her lap and her purse probably blocking the rest of her leg..it's not like she was gonna be doing squats in the aisle for the whole flight!
whoever complained about her needs to get their priorities checked..there are a lot worst things in the world than a short skirt on an airplane..

Do prudes filter/adjust their perceptions whenever they go to the beach? Where I'm from, you will see lots of jiggling flesh in thongs and skimpy tops...or just topless.

To my knowledge, I've never met a $5 hooker, so I have no idea how they dress. But no matter how they dress, why does anybody care about how they dress? You might easily persuade me that we shouldn't allow anyone to be in the business of selling sex at any price (for public health policy reasons), but why do you care what they wear? And I mean you personally; why do you care what people wear?
All the hookers I ever met got $20

Did someone change the link? That is the only thing I can think of. That outfit is so far on the conservative side of the line that it is not funny. If we were still in a world where MENS bathing suits were one piece and had straps over the shoulders then I'd say her outfit was way out of line. But in todays world it is well within the bounds of decency.

bump: i'd also be interested in hearing the response.
You all realize that the woman is going to optimize coverage (pull top up, pull skirt down) for media. Even given that, the outfit is short. If she had the skirt up and the top down, it could be pushing the limits. She is making mountains out of mole hills here and trying to get a big settlement. I applaud SW for standing up for what they think is right, even if it is a 180 from their roots.

Why does an airline steward, or you, or me, or anyone else get to decide that a particular outfit is undignified?
Restaurants require you to wear shirts and shoes for health code reasons that have nothing whatever to do with decorum.
The as yet unanswered question is "Why does anyone care what someone else wears?"

well, there are certain restaurants where you have to wear slacks and a jacket, so i see where jsharr is coming from.
the airline, however, deals with a much much greater slice of the general population. as such, i don't think their dress code should be as strigent.
Timhan got my point. At a bare minimum you must wear a shirt and shoes to go into any dining establishment.
I am talking about jacket and tie required places. At some point, one knows what is and is not appropriate attire. I have been turned away from places before for how I was dressed. I got over it, so should this chick. She is looking for a big check to make her shut up. I hope that SW sticks by their guns.
