Electric Bikes - Need an ebike ASAP - can no longer pedal

I've unfortunately developed a knee problem and need to rehabilitate without any pedaling or distance walking for 3 months. I have enjoyed commuting solely by bike for 2 years now and I am hating the thought of getting back into a car.
I want to instead find an electric bike to take me on my short commute. Problem is I need it ASAP, had to drive this morning, don't want to continue driving.
I am open to kits as I'm mechanically inclined. I do not want to break the bank on this however; the bike will be used mostly for the next 3 months and then I can resume pedaling.

Any input? Something that I can buy and have together within a week?

Buy a Crytalyte kit and bolt in on to your existing bike in a couple of hours. If you don't have a suitable bike, any diamond framed bike like this will work nicely.

For no pedaling, the BionX kit isn't really the ticket IMO, and the pedal assist features would largely go to waste.

Could Bionx self-start without pedalling?

That is a definite consideration, I am capable of no pedaling right now :( I need something that can just carry me on its own power

I was eying the eGo but at over a grand, that's busting the bank for me. I also was looking for something more suitable for sticking into a traditional bike rack to lock up.

Well, I may end up with an eGo after all. I found one for quite a good deal and am arranging to purchase it. Just have to figure out how I'm going to get it in my car now....

Seems that eGo is not classified as brike in Canada.
May be it is different in USA.

Could Bionx self-start without pedalling?

Yes it can with a console command "hack".

but come to think of it, Bionx is really best as a pedal assist rather than a pedaling replacement. But sometimes when I'm really tired I stop pedaling and hit the throttle.

I thin kthe OP should go for one of those heavier eBikes which are more like an electric moped. My old Strong GTS-210 comes to mind.

Wall-Mart thingies seem to work allright too.

I ended up buying an eGo Classic from a nice woman in Santa Cruz for $400. Took it on a maiden voyage yesterday to the grocery store and it was great. Battery really gets drained at top speed though.
Put on my Axiom Champlain panniers and it has quite the carrying capacity now

There she is. I flipped the stem around because the reach just seemed too far to me, quite perplexing actually. I am of the school that that your handlebars should be an elbows length from the nose of your saddle. Having the stem flipped passes this test (still a little longer than an elbow) but having the stem facing out puts it way off. *shrug*

Maybe you would be more comfortable with a set of "Dorothy" bars instead of the flats.
