Southern California - Hit by a car... again

Hit by a car last night. Spent a few hours in the hospital to get checked out. I'm OK, rode this morning. TT bike toast. Details here (http://www.photoscene.com/kimandsteve/199/pertinent-information)

Damn thats how I got taken out. Seems to be almost as common as right hook. :( Heal fast.

Ugh...I'm sorry your bike is toast, but dude, you walking out of that with minor injuries is a blessing. I wish you a speedy recovery, Steve, and NO more run-ins with cars. :(

Seems many of use have been taken out by drivers making left turns. The real disconcerting part is that in all the cases from what I can see there was NO WAY OUT and little warning in order to avoid collision.

Thanks everyone. I feel pretty good considering. I'll be riding slow for a few days and hopefully it won't affect me for Everest. Those were the wheels I was planning on using. Rear should be OK with a true, the front I think needs a rebuild. I'm going to be on a team next year with a Specialized sponsorship so I'll probably end up getting a new bike at a good deal.

I almost managed to avoid it. I think if I had been on my road bike I would have been able to, but on my TT bike I couldn't evade fast enough. If I had to pick which bike I wanted to get destroyed though... I picked the right one.

dude sorry to hear that...arent most tt bikes more expensive than the general road bike? Why would you rather have your tt bike out than your regular roadie?

The gaping chasm is hidden behind a Dora the Explorer band-aid at the moment. I am happily enjoying my newly shorn legs and their benefits vis-a-vis wound redressing.

Yes, the TT bike was my old road bike converted. So it was an aluminium Allez Sport frame from a few years ago with TT bars, a forward seatpost, a wicked short and dropped stem, and tri saddle. I only ride it for the club time trials once a month in the summer so a) I have a month to figure out what to do for the next one and b) I don't really care about the bike that much. Unfortunately it had my nice wheels which were probably worth just as much as or more than the rest of the bike, and although they are strong "bombproof" wheels, whey are not car-proof. I'm going to have them rebuilt, but I bought some new Mavic R-Sys wheels (http://thisjustin.bicycling.com/2007/06/new_mavic_wheel.html).

Did the driver stop? From the sound of the blog it seemed like it was a hit and run.

Oh, the driver stopped, the police and fire department came, statements and information were gathered. The police told me he had insurance and it was pretty clear who was at fault so I don't think it will be a problem collecting.
