no offense to anyone or anything, I just get really irritated when people complain about things like gas prices, but are too stupid to realize the facts.

Yeah because every American who buys gas is out there researching inflation rates. Gosh...somebody finds one fact and suddenly thinks they're smarter than everybody. LOL

I predict this will quickly go to P & R.
People get irritated when prices are adjusted upward in an apparently capricious manner. Seeing prices go up much faster than wages doesn't help either.
why do you hate amerikkka?

So I should be thankful gas is $2.90?
Seeing as there's been record profits for the oil companies lately, I would think you'd be a little pissed off by that. But then again, I'm just a dumb 'merican.
Well, I think most of us feel the gas companies have us by the huevos, and they price gas however they want.
I've seen studies regarding gas prices adjusted for inflation that go both ways.
If a DVD is too expensive, I just don't buy it.
But I live too far from work to ride my bike...
Besides that, it's simply fun to complain.
But those 'record profits' are on inflated dollars. ;)

Are we talking music or gasoline here? I am confused again.

That chart shows how gas prices are at historic highs. It used to be about this pricey during the depression and back during the other points in the 20th century when few people had cars, big deal. I still say it's not expensive enough. But that's not the point. The point is, I don't see the point of the chart. It only further proves why people are complaining.
Here, figure it out for yourself:

I use this all the time!
I seem to recall in '72 I bought gas in CA for about 32 c a gallon. Last night I paid $2.72. It should cost $1.54!
So there's some major gouging going on!
What it doesn't account for is the increase in attached taxes and the addition of gas taxes! Thanks, Sacramento!

Americans are stupid?
Ask someone in Europe who is the stupid one... Last I heard, they were paying +/- 4$/liter for petrol.

Yeah, but who allowed the gas companies to get us by the huevos in the first place?
We did.
Who complains whenever someone suggests investing tax money in public transportation infrastructure or affordable housing so more people can live closer to work?
We do.
Who has elevated the law of supply and demand and "free" markets to a near religion? (i.e. "Have faith, the invisible hand will provide.")
We have.
What nation has an insatiable appetite for cheap foreign-made goods, causing the economies of several other nations to grow explosively, boosting global oil demand to unprecendent levels?
Ours does.
Who organizes their entire lives around their car, including living in far flung suburbs, thereby necessitating larger and larger vehicles in order to transport us, our kids, their little league buddies, dogs, baby strollers, etc. etc., in turn requiring us to burn ever more fuel to carry out our daily lives (see point #1)?
We do.
Who is stupid again?
Hmm....
:D
P.S. This post is mostly tongue-in-cheek.

Well, have compassion on the poor toll. Imagine what it must feel like to be whipped economically by a country can perform in by a bunch of stupids... After all, I guess your citizens are brilliant because they pay more for gas?
If we are so stupid, why are we so wealthy? Since when is it smart not to complain about higher prices?

isn't gouging, its the nature of an almost unrestrained fiat currency run by a cartel of corporate banks
M3 is running about +14% annual these days here in the US

No offense, but I get really irritated when people post graphs with dots labelled "Nominal Gas Price on ..." that don't fall on the line labelled "Nominal Gas Price", but are too stupid to realize that they should.
