General Cycling Discussion - Shipping from Canada to the US

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I guess this question is out there for you canadiens. Can you do COD to the US? If not, can you cash a US Check in Canada? and lastly, are there custom fees/duties when crossing the border? if so, how much are they.
thanks

My husband purchases A LOT (no, I'm not bitter :D ) of car parts from the States and always has them shipped UPS. The duties and brokerage fees are due on delivery and are calculated on the cost of the item.
I would recommend using an international courier, i.e. UPS, FedEx, as they can take care of all the necessary paperwork and collect the $$ for duties and whatnot.
We never purchase anything COD, but I don't see why an item couldn't be shipped from Canada to the US that way.

Send me a cheque in US funds and we'll see. :D

Last I knew, the post office wouldn't do COD to foreign countries.
Yes, there is duty, but only after about $200 (coming in to the US). This is why duty-free shops are always so busy with returning Americans. Cutoms Canada isn't nearly as lenient, though.
Sounds to me like you have an e-bay deal. If so, use a credit card-they give you better exchange rates than banks do, and you have at least some recourse if you get screwed.
