i have a steel rigid framed gary fisher tarpon 2000-2001ish and i am thinking of getting a new fork. i am not sure where to start or what to look for. the current heatset it threaded so i believe i will need a new threadless one. new stem and handle bar is also needed but i think the old handle bar may be used. a friend of mine that rides recomended rockshox. i looked at the rockshox dart 3. i believe i should be looking for XC forks. i am also interested in riding down stairs. i did it a few times on my rigid but my buddy advised against it. any help would be appreciated

it'll be difficult to find a nice fork in that range. Look at used.
