Bicycle Mechanics - Bike Fitting Articles

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I tried doing a search in the forums but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Are there any good online articles on fitting bikes to someone? I want to make sure that my bike is setup right for me (seat height, forward/back seat distance, handlebar angle, etc etc). I also want to make sure when I buy a frame soon that I get the right size for my body type, riding style etc. I understand that a lot of it is preference but I'm sure there's a baseline that is followed. Are there any good articles that overview this out there?
Thanks, I appreciate the help all.
Sean

Peter White Cycles has an excellent guide, esp for non racers.

Here is another one:

www.coloradocyclist.com ditto. Fitting depends on the frame type and the algorithm changes somewhat depending on whether the frame is standard
diamond tube with top tube parallel to the ground or slant toptube, or 'no top tube" like Softride. All ATB are slant or no toptube type frames. Cycles with drop bars (road) fit differs from flat bar (comfort or ATB) types. Be certain the fitting discussion addresses the frame type you are looking at. Steve

Not so. You can ride the same position with flats or drops if that is what you want. There are many drop-bar riding tourists who have a relaxed fairly upright style, and many MTB riding couriers who have the bars set low and long for a very aerodynamic position.
