Hi, everyone!

I just started a full-time internship, where I normally work for most of the sunlit day. This leaves me with much less time to "train" on cycling (i.e., less mileage). I do not feel comfortable with sitting down and being practically idle for more than 8 hours every work day, and I know that there are many here who must do the same.

Is there any way that I can exercise or benefit towards my cycling that can co-exist with my work situation and environment? I do some spinning when I'm on break or concentrating on code to work on my upper leg muscles and my lower core, but I'm not sure if there are any more things that I can do.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Give up the internship, it's severely affecting your training.

I do push-ups & crunches every day at noon, I have scheduled it in MS Outlook to remind me to do it every day. This helps and to get out of the office I head out to the smoke area with the smokers get to get out and BS (I'm a non-smoker).

If you aren't bike commuting, do that. If it's too far or conditions are bad some of the way, drive part of the way to work and bike the rest. Then you can also use your lunch break to get in 30 minutes of riding. If you are looking to lose weight, 3 shorter rides a day are better than 1 long one. Since you are just sitting at a computer, you can wolf down your lunch while working.

If you have stairs in you building, you can always do stair climbing repeats.

Try The Treadmill Desk... burn 100 calories / hour. Developed at the Mayo Clinic.

is that 100 more calories or just 100 calories total?

The folks at Mayo Clinic say the average person burns an additional 100 per hour. Enough to lose 40-60 lbs per year by replacing 2-3 hours of sitting time with slow walking time.
