The sitch: my shoe cleats are worn, can't find exact Marresi replacements, could order some that bolt to the LOOK fittings, but I have these NOS Uniblocs.

These are the ones that screw in with 6 screws and fill the space between the cages and around the pedal body on Campy pedals. No slot for the rear cage. I'd have to take a Dremel to the front part or lose my invito scarpetta (Campy clips).

Do they work? Secure?

People still buy cleats like that!?! Sheesh.

All you need is 2 pieces of PVC plastic from a hardware store, line up the holes and drill new ones, line up the slot and use a hack saw. $5 later you have new cleats.

I used the unibloc cleats back in my racing days, 1970's. They were great! Locked you in very securely. Hell to walk on them. Best cleats I ever used.

Thanks! I only had contemporary reviews from Bicycling! (yes, with the ! back then) to refer to. Glad to hear a report from the living. Should get me another coupla years out of the shoes while I look for newer ones.

Yeah, I tried them too when I was racing in the 70's. Strange. They did hold your foot well, but they didn't want to release very easily. I suppose the block was to be comfortable, but I switched over to Vittoria when they sponsored me, and the wood sole model was the best shoe I ever used. Regular slot cleats, but they were very stable and easy to use. The older racers, like Merckx, use to build up leather to fit into the pedal cages on both sides of the axle . Pretty good and secure attachement to the pedal.

Hey!

Install report: About a half hour with the Dremel to fit the shoes and pedals and the invito scarpetta. Lateral position MUCH more crucial than with a regular old slotted cleat.

Ride report: Good thing I can trackstand (road)! Very secure, even with just one strap.

I've had them on for about six months now, or about 1000 miles with the way things go for me these days. This is season 16 for the old Marresis, and these cleats should get me to season 20.
