Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
dudes! i came down from boston to visit my folks and my girlfriend who just moved to durham for a year. i took her singlespeed steamroller out for a little local spin and took erwin road from durham to chapel hill and back for a little 25 mile out n' back. what a great road! nice pavement and wide enough even with quick traffic. nice rollin' little hills to make a singlspeeder get outta the saddle a coupla times. real nice ride!
oh yeah, and the beer is pretty good at the carolina brewery on franklin street.:beer::beer:
That's my daily commute. It is perfect to get some exercise, but not too long in terms of time.
I have to say that I probably wouldn't dig the Franklin St. hill on a fixie (up or down)
have her take you to tyler's taproom in durham...
i'd offer to meet you for a ride, but i'm gone for the weekend as of tomorrow.

It always seems so busy now - even though I know it isn't really - it's just that since I don't live over that way anymore, my perception of what it ought to look like is trapped in the time-warp from ~ 1990. (Sort of like "you can't go home again" syndrome.)

it is a pretty good hill goin' up on a SS. but man o man, is it fun goin' down. i tucked a little and hit 32 mph coastin'. thinkin' of ridin'on to pittsboro tomorrow.
and i went back last night to carolina brewery.
I posted this already on the commuting forum already, but I hit 44 mph on Franklin last night. There was a bit of a tailwind and a school bus about 50m ahead that broke the wind for me. Wheee!
edit: Oh if you want to go on a ride from Durham, there are some good roads north and west of there that are pretty untravelled. Just map out a ride on google maps that avoids the state highways.

Sure, they're nice on a Sunday morning, but keep away during the commute -- Danger Will Robinson!
