Couldn't decide, so went with a lager from microbrew from Lambertville, NJ. River Horse

And the Brooklyn Brewery Oktoberfest.

Full Sail LTD. Amazingly good dark lager. $5.99 at TJoes.
<c'mon 5:30.....>:D
I miss Brooklyn Brewery so much. And Lone Star... And cheap dogfish.
Luckily there's a million other good brews to be had. I think I'm going to get some eye of the hawk tonight.

Your own beer or is it Boulevard, 75st, or that monkey stuff made in Olathe? Those Pale Ales always taste good. Used to make some 10 gallon batches with a buddy. Some good and some bad. He drank em all.
Shiner Hefeweizen. First time trying it out. Also the last. Too bland. Needs more bite to it.
Green Flash IPA from Denver? I love IPA's but never heard of that one.

Last night it was Scrimshaw:

The night before, an overly-aged batch of Old Rasputin:

(it was uncharacteristically thick in a yucky way, think it was old)
So, tonight it's good ol' Crown 'n' Coke.

The way I see it, there are two different kinds of beer companies:
- Ones that brew delicious beer
- Ones that produce fabulous TV commercials.
I don't see the sets intersecting at all. Cheers!

A couple of EKU 28s would be my preference. Sam Adams triple bock is too hard to come by.

BLIMP, since you live in Flag, go hop on your bike and take a ride down to Uptown Billiards. Ally and James will do you right and get you some good brews. One of the first things I learned when experimenting with beer is that Hefeweizen is NOT your friend. It's good for the first summer after you become a beer drinker, but after that, it's time to let them go and start exploring ales. I am very passionate about my beer, and I'd have to say that right now, I'm really big on Belgian Abby Ales (it's that time of year).

I drink plenty of ale. The Arrogant *******s are a personal favorite, Dead Guy Ale is up there too. I like a good spicy weizen though. Uptown Billiards is meh. And this is most certainly not the first summer I've been a "beer drinker".

I'm out of that as well :(.
Went with the St Arnold Octoberfest, and it's delicious. I have to say that Brooklyn Brewery is good but not great, and I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. St Arnold's (Houston) and the Real Ale Brewery (Blanco, TX) are both better.
On the other hand, I miss the Sixpoint Brewery in Red Hook (Brooklyn) every day. oh for a Bengali Tiger IPA...
Stupidly Brave: it pains me that I can't get Magic Hat in Texas
Blimp: watch out for the elephants, indeed.
I've learned better than to take the advice of someone from aus10. I know your wiles.
Oh, I've already seen the pink elephant and we had a long talk. Eventually we decided that he was a pretty lame symbol for intoxication and went away. Soon I'll hanging out with with American literature. Much more fitting.

Boulevard's wheat isn't bad. Not my favorite, but definitely not bad. I like their Zon (wit) better. My favorite from that area, though, is the O'Fallon 5 Day IPA.
I'm not from that area, but my wife was recently in St. Louis, and she brought me back a sampler...

ANY IPA is too awful. Anyone that prefers IPAs to real beer must also like Velveeta on saltine crackers.
Tilburg's Dutch Brown Ale is my top choice, but recently I have been enjoying Sam Adams Honey Porter

I'd have to disagree to a degree. I am not an IPA fan by any means, but I have had some nice ones. They have been unfiltered, unpasteurized versions, so maybe that helped make them good.

What a coincidence, I was out riding last night and just happened to be in the Old Toad (English Pub that has a huge 4 page MENU of just the bottled beer they have, not to mention the 16 plus tapped flavors) and enjoyed my favorite -- Hoegaarden. Yum!
Was actually looking to see if they carried "Three Philosophers" - dark chocolatey kinda beer that went well with a piece of dark chocolate cake that I had recently. They didn't, so now I must go to the Beers of the World store.
Just tried the Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale. Niiiiiiiiiice.

Does S.N. make a bad beer? Seems like every one I try is pretty good!

Agreed! Their ales have that little extra hit of hops/bitterness that I simply love. Damn, is it too early ........ (checks watch) ..... I guess so. :D

Did you make this mead? Or where did you get it?

I tried that for the first time a year ago when a friend and I hit the English Pub - tasted pretty good, smelled wonderful. My friend went home and bought a crock pot - then onto the liquor store where he bought a bottle of it - that came with the package of spices for it. He said it turned out pretty good, but wasn't like the stuff he head at the Pub.
On another forum, there's a couple of people who are really into the homebrewing and one of them made some mead (fermented honey wine base) where I think he said he was adding some kind of berries to it. Sounded pretty good though!

OK, here's my beef with IPA. All you can taste is hops. Although hops had some role in preserving beer at one time, their original function was to add a bit of flavoring to beer. It was later found that you could produce a lower alcohol beer that kept longer by using more hops.
These day, high levels of hops just cover up the taste of bad beer and suckers are paying premium prices to be duped.

Been a while since I was into the wine/mead homebrewing but I think its called a melomel or something like that if you add berries to it. Sounds good though...may have to make some this year.

sounds like most US micro-brews, which tend to be overly flavorful/fussy. at least the ones i've been drinking (apart from brooklyn pilsner, which i like).

I disagree. There are some really fine examples of great beer in the American IPA style. Dogfish Head 90, for example. Yeah, it's extremely hop forward, but their continuous hopping technique adds to a hop complexity that's just outstanding. I can understand you not liking IPAs if you don't like hops, but to say that a hop forward beer is only bold in hops to hide poor craftsmanship, or to allow for a lower alcohol beer, is simply not true.
