Some of us are riding from Charlton Flats to Wrightwood on Angeles Crest this Saturday leaving at 8am sharp. It's about 75 miles with 8k of climbing all above 5000ft. You need an Adventure Pass to park.http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardino/ap/vendors.php. It's 25 miles of mountains between water stops so I bring 3 bottles no problem. There is food and water and sodas in Wrightwood though, Yay. Charlton is 23 miles up A.C. from the 210 fwy it's about a 40 minute drive.
Hi VB,
I can't find Charlton Flats on my mapping software. Major intersections? ;)

Hi VB,
I can't find Charlton Flats on my mapping software. Major intersections? ;)Charlton is 8 miles past Red Box on Angeles Crest, sr2. There are no intersections up there but it's a few miles east [up]of where Upper Big Tujunga meets the 2. There is a building and a campground there and a parking lot on the left side. It's before Chilao a little.

Hey VB. Mario and I (maybe more) will start at the bottom early. We won't go all the way to Wrightwood, but hope to see your gang up there.

We had a nice ride today in the beautiful San Gabriels. A very select group of 3 riders [Lee Irene and Jane] from Santa Clarita Velo, and 3 [me, John and Sarah] from the SFVBC. Fall has fallen up there as we spent the day in arm warmers and vests off and on. Crystal clear skies made it possible to see Catalina from Big Pines ,an estimated 80 miles away. A kinda uneventful 74 miles with 8 1/2K climbing. All along the upper road we saw the support people for an ultra marathon , running 100 miles on trails from Wrightwood to the Rose Bowl. :eek:I'm sure glad I ride a bike.

I haven't felt cold in months, it was strange. The ride seemed harder than the Grassy Hollow ride, maybe that was because Irene kept dropping me. Another pretty close to perfect day in the mountains. It's going to be hard to get interested in any city rides after spending so much time up there this summer. Vertical Bob has corrupted me.

John, I forgot to tell you this was a recovery ride for Irene. :D (just kidding). It was great riding with everyone. We have a new convert, Jane. She really enjoyed the riding on AC. I hope it takes them a long time to get that road fixed, with the minimal traffic, and the nice pavement, plus all the climbing, it is just a awesome route.

I think we have a couple of more months to ride in the San Gabriels before it gets too cold. That may not be the case in Mammoth this weekend. Special K said it was going to be in the 30's at the higher elevations for the Everest ride. Maybe not that cold ,but could be.:( The corrupter.
