Mountain Biking - Dual Crown, QR, V-Brakes - Is There Such A Fork

Looking to upgrade the Rock Shox Judy DHO on my '97 GT LTS DH. It looks like most dual crown forks these days use the 20mm axle - are there any that use just QR hubs? Furthermore, I would like to stick with V-Brakes as the rear wheel will only ever be running V-Brakes.

Good luck finding something like that, nothing remotely like that has been made since 2004 with the Marzocchi Drop Off Triple, and those were piles. Ever think of going to a longer travel single crown?

Thanks for the response. Pathetic I know, but I like the look of the dual crown. If I changed to the 20mm hub, are there V-Brake options?

I've got a sweet little Judy XLC that only got three seasons use and is in great condition. Trouble is, it's not that much different than you DHO :o

Closest I can tell you is to look for a 'gently-used' RST Alfalfa 6" dual crown. They made QR adapters that went in the 20mm axle holes. No v-brake bosses though so you'd have to go disc.

Best advice is to go with Smashy's and look at the new generation of longer single-crowns.

You can pick up an avid mechanical for like $60 pretty easily. Never heard of anyone complaining of too much stopping power up front, so the switch isn't that big a deal. Problem solved.

you could just buy a new disc compatible hub and pay around 30-40 to have it laced up to your rim, depending on how much your shop costs. OR just buy a front wheel? your front wheel does like 80% of your stopping or something like that.

You can pick up a decent front wheel on ebay for very cheap. You could probably pick up a brake and wheel for under $150. It would be a good investment, I think.

When did I say they were better than a DHO? I'm sure people like options when they're beginning to purchase a piece of crap. There are different flavors of crap. Some salty, some bitter...all crap, but at least you're blinded into thinking the choices matter in some way.

Hey, thanks for all the replies. I'm trying to keep to the "look" of the original LTS DH, hence the dual crown / V-brakes preference. Money is not a huge issue (within reason). I'm not comfortable pulling apart the DHO shock, so was looking for something slightly more recent that could a) be serviced by someone other than I or b) would have parts and manuals available, and I would have more confidence in pulling apart.

I will Google the options that Zumba advised and check out whether I would feel comfortable servicing these forks.

I had an RST Delta HL on my Haro V3, it was very light compared to what was on there originally and strong. You may still find them new on Ebay, it could take a while. They work OK, not great but OK and its unlikely you'll break one. I liked the way it worked but I like the way my Marzocchi Dirt Jam Pro works too, of the two I think I preferred the RST, but that just may be happy memories of a good frame/fork combo.
