Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Handlebar area creaks

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Whenever I ride from a start the handlebar area would creak, it'll also happen when I would make a quick/sharp turn with the handlebar. Does anyone know whats causing this?
I did grease the handlebar/stem area so I'm assuming that won't be it. I did also take the front brake off to see if it would stop the creak noise but nada.
thx

it's probably where your stem clamps down on your bars. take the bars out, put a drop of lube in there, tighten up properly and i bet you'll be fine.
Already greased. Could be brake housing rubbing something, could be headset (maybe?), could be front hub.
problem solved!, after taking the stem/handblebar off to inspect.
I think the problem was the nuts holding the stem down being overtightened cuz it took forever to unscrew the damn thing. This time I didn't tighten the screw too much. and now that creaking noise is gone.
woot
