Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - What do you wear in the rain?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've been trying to find a slick rain jacket/hard shell/soft shell to wear when riding my bike to protect myself from cold winds as well as rain.
What do you guys wear in these type of conditions?

I've got this nice Helly Hansen rain jacket that I wear with some random New Balance nylon pants. I'd buy cycling specific stuff, but I couldn't see any point in dropping another $100+ bucks when I had nice stuff around to begin with.

A big old yellow rain jacket. I layer clothing underneath depending on weather temp.

A ~$20 rainsuit from walmart. End up sweating enough to make up for any deflected rain, but at least I'm not muddy.
Same **** i normally wear. I get doused though.

If its colder my columbia jacket
If warmer, i bust out the 1990s "Surf Style" windbreaker with USA written all over it.
You guys aren't helping. I'm out here looking to drop $100 on something like this..(not necessarily only for riding my bike, kicking it around town as well, naw mean?)

Buy some Patagucci (http://www.patagonia.com)if you really want to drop some bones, otherwise there are a ton of cheaper more practical jackets out there. In my own experience I would never wear one of my nicer rain jackets/shells because when it is raining and you are riding funky ass road crap gets kick up and I don't want my nice stuff to have that all over it. That is why I am all about the cheap, but functional rain riding gear.
nashbar pvc.

the velcro ripped the pvc material, so my girlfriend sewed it back up
and now it's great.

I bought a Marmot rain shell with no insulation about 4 years ago and I love it. If you wear just the shell it isn't too hot and the rain doesn't come through at all. If you throw the right layers underneath you can wear it in sub-zero temps no problem. I originally bought it for hiking, but it works so well I wear it for all outdoor stuff. Also, since it is just a shell you can pack it really small, this one has a double zipper on the left pocket so you can fold the jacket into its own pocket, then you end up with a small pillow looking thing that is easy to carry with.
I also have a cheap pair of EMS rainpants. They work ok in light rain, but in a downpour you get wet.

I have a waterproof race face jacket that I usually carry in my bag. Don't know the model.
As far as pants go, i try to wear my Portland Cyclewear knickers, but some times I don't know its going to rain. They dry out pretty fast.
Check out some Frogg Toggs (http://www.froggtoggs.com).

Voler rain jacket (http://www.velowear.com/products/1010222CLRSML.aspx). Not super tough, but it's cheap enough to afford another to keep as backup in your bag/office/colon.

i just throw a hoodie on over my normal clothes, as in the case of Hurricane Humberto this morning. it is usually drenched by the time i get to my destination, but it keeps my body dry.

y'know what i love about warm weather? you can wear swimmin' trunks and a b ball jersey, get soaked immediately and then not even care about (or actually really enjoy) getting a shower for once. ..er, getting wet.
i bring a spare shirt, drawz, socks, shorts 'n shoes and i get changed in the office bathroom when i do this commuting to work. it starts to get tricky in the colder weather though. i used to wear synthetic wool long sleeve shirts 'n long johns with shorts and a good windbreaker on days where it wasn't below 35 degrees. you're good as long as you keep up a decent hustle.

I just get wet and change. I have clothes stashed all over this town.
edit: I will wear wool pants if I know Im going to get wet. Sometimes also a polypro top. You can get all wet and still be warm.

carhartt waterproof breathable jacket. its thigh length so it might be a little long. i want to get a northface goretex paclite, i hear those are cash money. i second that north face venture jacket. looks to be a quality jacket.
The problem with most rain jackets is that the medium is either too big (oversize) or too small on me, and obviously the large are huge..
GORE windstopper softshell, it's warm, fits like a glove and keeps me dry enough. Only downside is the price, probably around $200-$250 for you guys

If it's warm enough, I just deal, and change at work.
It's a little cool, I cover up the top with a Champion (target) windbreaker/jacket. I've yet to do the nylon cover for my pants thing...
BTW, if you haven't yet, check out the athletic stuff at target, solid and super cheap...I think "champion" might be a target brand now...? But i've got "duo dry" shirt that breathes and wicks, socks and the windbreaker, all great. The duo dry shirt is the ****. I used to just do a tshirt and sweat it through and change, still have a wet shirt at 5 when I leave. Now, I wear the duo dry for like 10 minutes after I get to work and it's dry. Wicking is an amazing thing.

I just won this in an ebay auction. I paid too much for it, but I love Mondrian. It is definitely not lame that this will match my bag.

Yup - nice jacket. Mountain Hardware.
With softshells in general, I find that you have to "recharge" the waterproofing by using a spray from time to time. It involves getting the fabric wet and rubbing the spray into the fabric by hand then line drying.
When this is done, it's waterproof for about an hour in heavy rain before it starts to get saturated. The benefit over a shell jacket is that it is super breathable and doesn't feel like plastic so you can use it with short sleeves, without a liner.
i have a patagonia stretch shell (several years old, sort of proto-soft shell) that i wear when things get moist. i usually don't ride in foul weather, though.

marmot precip jacket and pants pack super small and are totally waterproof. still doesnt solve the sopping wet shoe problem when i get to work though.
Fenders! I'm thinking about getting some SKS fenders because it just started raining here. Rain=suck.
I do not have nor tried these, but other forums/threads/sites suggest:
Various Showers Pass (http://www.showerspass.com/) products
RedLedge Men's Thunderlight Pants (http://www.redledge.com/productDetail.cfm?gID=1&bID=1&colID=12&prodID=280)
J&G Cyclewear Waterproof Breathable Jackets (http://www.bicycleclothing.com/Waterproof-Breathable-Rain-Jackets.html)
Cannondale's Morphis Shell 2007 (http://brandscycle.com/itemdetails.cfm?catalogId=39&id=7470) (on sale at this link).
Mountain Equipment Co-op's Cyclone Tights (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442617947&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302692411&bmUID=1187745821636) or Splash Cycling Pants (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442619474&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302692411&bmUID=1187745821645). I do have the Cyclone Tights but have not yet tried them in rain.
Rainlegs (http://www.rainlegs.co.uk/index.php?PHPSESSID=78bacf0674992ef3a3c50f3749292089). Very different but since you get somewhat wet, either by the rain or perspiration, some posters liked these. They suggested being certain you get them long enough to go over and slightly below your knees.
Numerous Gortex and to some extent (I gather) Gore's Windstopper products. Gore has a good glossary of the various fabric construction terms and the tradeoffs of more breathability vs more waterproofness at LINK (http://www.windstopper.com/remote/Satellite?c=fabrics_cont_land_c&childpagename=windstopper_en_US%2Ffabrics_cont_land_c%2FTechnicalGlossary&cid=1148660507226&packedargs=gender%3DMen&pagename=SessionWrapper#def5).
Please post to this thread about what you got and how you liked it.
ah, florida warmth. i wear a cheap louie garneu(sp?) rain jacket, hat and some board shorts. i just change whenever i get to my location.

oh yeah when it's cold i wear a surplus goretex army jacket. when i ride near trees i'm invisible!
The Frogg Toggs that I suggested are the most waterproof breathable rain gear one can get, hands down. Which is why most hikers are switching to them. They also don't tend to fail like gore-tex.

hard shell jacket with light system http://cyclite.com/ dry and warm
Gortex riding pants for downpours and extreme cold windbreaking
Soft rain pants for non-downpours
Neoprene shoe covers.
I used to have a goretex Pearl Izumi cycling-suit that did me well before a few too many crashes did it in...
Now that I'm in a far warmer clime I just go with swim trunks and a tshirt and bring a change of clothes.

I use a Marmot Precip jacket as a breathable/waterproof outerlayer, and then a long-sleeved wicking shirt underneath.
I've been thinking about getting some SealSkinz waterproof socks. Some messengers around here use em.

MEC Ferrata hoodie, except in black rather than snot... err... "edamame" green (I kid you not).
It's Schoeller Dryskin, which is nice and stretchy, close fitting, and has a good balance between water resistance and breathability. Chest pockets are nice and big, and the hood is perfect over a toque and under a helmet. I find I get wetter from my sweat than the actual rain in most cheapo shells. A close fitting Goretex XCR or Paclite shell would be awesome for those really nasty days, but it don't rain enough to justify that.
wind shirt or other base layer tights tee shirt and cargo shorts if its cold I throw on arm warmers and a vest
