I have a radio show, It's called the Alternative Transportatioon Radio Show. It's on Shortwave. You can listen on Saturday at 3:00 PM Eastern, which translates to 2:00 PM Central, 1:00 PM Mountain and 12:00 Noon Pacific.

I have paid for airtime on a 50,000 watt transmitter, located in the state of Maine.
The frequency is 7415 kHz.

I don't know how long I'm going to continue this , however. Airtime is kind of expensive.

I tried broadcasting in the spring of 2004, but I was doing it live, and it was a hassle. Now I'm doing the show on a cassette tape and mailing the tape to the radio station.

You might have missed the first show, last Saturday, Sept. 8th.

Next show will be Saturday Sept. 15th, as I said, three PM Eastern, on 7.415 megahertz shortwave.

If anyone can listen and tell me how the broadcast is coming in, I would appreciate a signal report.

I don't think I'll do this show for very long, maybe just for the month.
The show is NOT exclusively about bicycles, I also discuss trains and other means of geting around.

hotbike, the way you afford this is by getting advertisers or underwriters. Figure out who are the most likely candidates for wanting to be exposed to your radio audience, and call their marketing director. You'll never get through to anyone in the big companies, so start small.

You could always do webcasting, through something like Live365. Probably a lot cheaper, and with much higher listener potential. I use live365 for the background music in my office, it would be great to be able to tune in a station dedicated to alt transport.

I'd like to listen to that alt.transportation radio program, hotbike. Are the programs available in downloadable mp3 format? Do you have a web site or a blog?

Just a couple tips from myself who has experience in audio production. (And a personal website)

If pre-producing the show record to mp3, post show on FTP site for the station download. Stop using cassette tapes. Much much better quality product, even on AM radio.

Since you'll have an mp3 you can make it available as an on demand podcast on your website.

Sell relevant advertising on your show and website. Use both to drive traffic to each other. Have discussions and links on your website, creating more web traffic and ideas for the show.
