I am researching these, and I like the compactness and 4-sided clip in arrangement, but I have a question that I can't seem to find on the website. What type of shoe can you use with it? I see references to SPD, so is this the only type of shoe that it works with? Will it work with road shoes that have the universal drill pattern on the soles?

They have road cleats you can buy that look wider, other than that they should work with anything. All the holes are confusing.

Yes, any SPD compatible shoe will work, road or Mtb. I bought two sets of these pedals when they were on sale for $49, not too long ago, when only one model was available. Love 'em....

The road cleats have little things on the side to help you be more stable when walking because roadbike shoes generally don't have much in the way of tread. However, you still must make sure the roadbike shoes you buy have SPD 2-bolt holes or else you'll need an adapter plate assuming one's available. For instance, Sidi's high end road shoes only come with 3 and 4 bolt hole patterns thus you would need to use an SPD adapter which results in a Sub-Optimal™ installation.
