Is Bicycle Commuting in Denton possible?

My wife and I are applying to graduate school at UNT. I've been told that there are "ways" to get around Denton by bicycle, but it's advised that I definitely own a car. I hate phucking cars! I've been told that the following apartments are decent ones to check out: Bernard St Appartments (off of Bernard and Eagle) and Rams Gate. Does anyone know these apartments? How would a commute be from the area of these apartments to UNT? Do you see a lot of cyclists commuting in the Denton area? What is the general attitude toward cyclists like in Denton?

Just looking at mapquest it seems the distance from those eagle/bernard apartments to the middle of the UNT campus is less then a mile. They are across from a nice cemetary too bonus!

Of course for graduate school maybe you have to go to sites off campus?

It seems to/from campus you could walk. I always found that even though I had my bike on campus when I went to school (not UNT) that if the class wasn't too far away it was alot easier to walk.

Thanks evblazer! I didn't even think to look at mapquest to see how close the apartments were to campus. I was a walking fool before I started biking two years ago. Sites off campus for graduate school? I suppose that's possible, I hope not though, or not too far. I don't own an auto at all. Thanks for your time.

I've never been, but all the firsthand accounts I've listened to describe it as the perfect bike commuting town.

Everything I ahve heard is it is pretty common in Denton and the few tiems I ahve driven though Denton I ahve always seen people on bikes. Most looked like commuters, hope this helps

My wife rented an apartment at Rams Gate when she was working on her Master's degree at UNT. Decent apartment complex, not too far from campus. As far as bike communting around town, I've been on a few bike rides up that direction and some roads are more bike-able than others. However Denton does have a decent bus system as well to compliment the cycling.

Dude, no sweat. It's not even a commute to UNT from there...merely a short jaunt.


Plus, you're practically right behind Whataburger.
