Visiting a friend after work in Dobbs Ferry tomorrow. Can I ride, do you think?
It looks like 25 or so miles straight up Route 9W. Anyone ride this?

Here's the South Couty Trailway that will get you from the City line to Dobbs:

Air knows how to get up the west side; I'm sure you do as well, but PM him.

Here's the Master NYC DOT Bike Maps:

What is the South County Trailway? Is this a bike only route? I can't be that lucky!

Yeah man...you just have to figure out how to get to the Henry Hudson Bridge, then get up to the start of the Trail. There are a few detours on the Trailway though, so put these two maps together and read the key and you'll see where they stop and end. Ya gotta PM Air though...Inwood is squirrely, not to be done at night...you'll prob. have to go up Broadway and then cut over to the start of the South Part of the Trail.

You don't want 9W. That's over in Jersey and north into NY on the west side of the river. Perhaps you were thinking of Rt 9, which you essentially do not want to be on thru Yonkers and north, as it's mostly 1-2 lanes each direction, no shoulder w/ cars doing 50 in a 30 zone. Friggin nightmare on a bike at rush hour.

The South County Trail is a rail trail - bike and pedestrians only, that really starts in the south at Barney Ave. in Yonkers (last I checked), just west of Saw Mill River Road. It goes north to Elmsford, but if you get off in Ardsley, you can take Ashford Ave. west over the NY Thruway and into DF.

Others have posted ideas for routes to Yonkers out of the city.
