Foo - Sometimes you just gotta take the fall

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We as humans will always strive for the best. We know the difference between good and bad, right and wrong. We naturally want to do the right things. We have a pride of who we are, knowing that if we do our best, the rewards will come. Sometimes it takes a little bit longer than we expect, but we do in fact get our just rewards.

We come into this world borne of innocence - but as experience seasons us, we become hurt, we learn disappointment and thus become a little bit hardened.

Through those experiences we gain certain knowledge. We learn to give, we learn to take and we try to find a balance. Sometimes that strive for balance will lead you to places that you never thought you'd be.

Thus, another very strong applicable factor in the building blocks of learning.

And sometimes, there are losses. Ideals, beliefs and possibly...of the heart. It could be your dignity, your pride, your feelings of self worth. Losses of things that you didn't even know were slowly being stripped of you. Until you realize that you are going down.

But there is one thing that will always exist. Your cognitive decision on how to handle things. Your cognitive decision on whether or not to let the negativity pull you down even further. Your cognitive decision to see past all the intentions that are undesireable that are meant to take you down. Your cognitive decision to not let anyone else own your inner strength and your self love.

Through life's rough lessons, sometimes you just gotta take the fall. But it's up to you how you handle it. ;)

Hitler believed he was doing the right thing....in his twisted mind...

Hitler got his just reward....well, he is dead....and no one knows what lies beyond...not for sure anyway...hopefully...eternal torment.

Everything that happens happens as it should, and if you observe carefully, you will find this to be so.

Hitler naturally wanted to do the wrong thing. The fact that he thought it was right does not alter that fact.

As for whether he got his just reward, I can't say, but you should really have read the wikipedia link I posted before you reply to my second comment. Clue: it's not about hitler.

Siu: what prompted you to post this? It was definitely a nice reminder. Is it an excerpt from something or your own words? Either way, thanks.

elgalad, you did not see my tie in, "we are borne of innocence", no?

I do not want this to be moved to P and R, nor do I want any kind of friction here with my fellow Foosters. I'd appreciate it if no negativity develops here. Yes, I understand that this is a discussion forum and you have a right to your opinion but by design this thread was not meant to start any arguments with anyone here please.

Albert Facey's "just rewards" were the fact that he was able to educate himself and write about his life so that it may be shared with others. It shows that through all of what he had to face, there is still light at the end of the tunnel. He did in fact decide to positively handle all of his hits and use it in a developmental way. He still had faith in enough to pull himself out of all that tried to hold him down. Something of so much value that it can be used as a lesson and inspriation to others. ;)

And yes, balsingh. These are my own words. Something I believe in dearly that I felt might be good to share. :)

Education is not a reward, it's a basic human right.

Seeing as his book didn't get published until just before his death, and wasn't widely read until well after, I find it hard to believe that his reward was a whole bunch of warm fuzzies from affecting people's lives.

You give people way too much credit. Comparison to history's mass murderers isn't even necessary. Go into any place of business and you'll find plenty of people half-assing it, even to the point that they're placing others in danger. Go into any neighborhood and you'll find spouses cheating on their significant others. Go to any professional sporting event and you'll find people cheating to win. None of the people in these cases are doing what they're doing because they think it's right. That's why they attempt to hide their actions. They usually do it because it's easier or they'll get richer. Some of them do it because they're sociopaths and simply don't give a **** who they're hurting (sort of like wishing infinite torment as punishment for finite transgressions).

We as humans will always strive for the best. We know the difference between good and bad, right and wrong. We naturally want to do the right things. We have a pride of who we are, knowing that if we do our best, the rewards will come. Sometimes it takes a little bit longer than we expect, but we do in fact get our just rewards.

But it's up to you how you handle it. ;)

To many, good is to serve yourself. As long as any actions furthers their own perceived desires or wants, it is in their minds good.

In truth, we come into the world as brats - and about year 2 start to learn that perhaps others exist.

Some people never do.

On your topic - falling can be a very good thing. Many a time I have been involved in something that was going poorly. When finally it fell apart it was a relief. In riding a bike - if you feel like you are going down, it is best not to deny the fact but prepare to land as softly and safely as you can. Life is much like that.

Denial will generally cause a rather spectacular crash and burn in my experience.

Like Victor Frankl in "Man's Search for Meaning", in which he realized while being held in a Nazi concentration camp, not knowing whether his wife was alive or dead, that the one thing they couldn't take away from him was his attitude.

We as humans [say] we will always strive for the best [but settle for conformity]. We [arrogantly and wrongly assume that we] know the difference between good and bad, right and wrong. We naturally want to do the right things [-but by right I mean what’s best for me]. We [wear a mask showing] pride of who we are; knowing that if we do our best, the rewards will come. Sometimes it takes a little bit longer than we expect, but we do in fact get our just rewards, [but sometimes what we deserve isn’t much].

We come into this world borne of innocence [but marred with the original sin]- as experience seasons us, we become hurt, we learn disappointment and thus become a little bit hardened.

Through those experiences we gain certain knowledge. We learn to give, [because giving makes us feel better]; we learn to take, and we try to find a balance.

[That is, until your subconscious experiences dissonance and has to alter your perception in order to maintain sanity]. [You then use these false perceptions to understand what is your reality.]

Through life's rough lessons, sometimes you just gotta take the fall. But it's up to you how you handle it.
