Foo - Clearwire

Antone here have Clearwire? I have been getting ads from them in the mail and am interested in checking it out. They want a 2 year commitment so I am looking for feedback before I make that kind of commitment.

I have it in the back of my mind. I am not very far from you, and Verizon came through earlier this year and laid fiber optic cable. I have the Verizon high-speed DSL (3 MB/second) for around $ 40 per month. Verizon keeps wanting me to sign up for their fiber and say that they will be turning off the copper in a few years, so there will be no landline phone or DSL service unless you switch to the fiber. However, based on the horror stories I have heard so far about the FIOS install, and what is needed for the install, I am in no hurry to sign up. If Verizon does turn off the copper, I will look at Clearwire or a Comcast cable modem then. I know that Clearwire is testing a laptop card so that you will not need the paperback book-sized modem to connect.

I do know a couple of people with Clearwire, and if you get a strong signal, they think it is great.

Thanks Millcreek for the input. Being the old fart that I am I decide awhile ago to lose my land line. I didn't see any reason for me to pay 2 phone bills so I opted to keep my cell. So I lost my internet access at that time.

One of the things that attracts me to clearwire is that I maybe able to surf the net on my commute home (My ST bus doesn't have wi-fi yet) depending on the signal.
