The weather's been pretty good in Florida this summer (low 70s at 7:00am increasing to high 80s at noon) so I've been gradually increasing my mileage, finally reaching 60 mile rides three times a week. Typically at the thirty mile mark I'll meet some biking buddies for breakfast. Then it's thirty miles more to home. Yesterday, after arriving home, I had a pretty nasty rash extending from the area of one sit-bone across the perineum and including the area of the other sit-bone. This hasn't happened when I don't stop for breakfast so I'm assuming that sitting around for 30 to 45 minutes in sweaty biking shorts is the cause of the rash. (I always start out in freshly laundered shorts).

Is there a treatment for the shorts or a cream or powder for the body that will prevent this rash? Otherwise I guess I'll carry a second pair of shorts and change at the restaurant, but I'd just as soon avoid this.

Your advice would be appreciated.

Hi Bob. I use ASSOS cream, and it's worked wonders for me. You may also want to toss those shorts if they are really old - even a good washing doesn't kill all the nasties. In terms of post saddle soars - I use cortizone cream, and keep the area as clean and dry as possible. Then, you wait .....

Bob, get yourself some Gold Bond body powder and apply liberally to the area in question. I have found that all of their products work really WELL. I'm from Sarasota/Longboat area and it is the only thing that has worked for me when I work up a lather in the Fla heat.
