I would prefer East Bay and somewhere around 40 or so miles.
I am thinking about this one: http://www.bikecal.com/asp/cal-detail.asp?num=42097&ddate=2007-09-15
Any good group rides in the works?
Thanks,
ROJA
Me too! But I'm looking for one around Daly City/Penninsula area.

Hey! You guys wanna come over to Half Moon Bay for a ride? I'll take you down some beautiful routes, no cars... I need to go early and be done by noon-ish, though.
It's all about the Raiders.
Therefore, I can't ride with you. Ever Neccro. Sorry.
Pssssht, if you ride, and you make the ride shorter than 70 miles, I might be able to go. :D
I might be able to do the Peninsula, but I want to finish by around 1:00 or 2:00. The riding around Woodside/La Canada is always nice.

There are some rolling farm roads back here where not too many people drive or even ride bikes on. About 300 to 500 ft climbs, so not too onerous. You get to see the ocean, pass by farms, and we can even get into the redwoods a little bit. Lots to choose from (other than Hwy1). Weather has been superb lately!!!
I was planning to do a 3 hour ride tomorrow morning. Since you are driving all the way from San Ramon, I'd delay the start time to, say, 9am?
Hmmm, that just might work for me! Looks like HMB is less than an hour from my house. I usually ride in the M group with the local clubs.
EDIT- Let me know the final details and I may be able to join. If this thing works out, can someone PM me a cell number so that we can make final plans?
Thanks!

I was going to do that one, but will venture to Richmond to ride with the Recumbents of the East Bay group, instead.
ROJA - thanks for the link! BTW, how was the Tahoe ride? Are you able to join the team for the MS ride?

Sesame - that'd be great!! How far is the ride? Do we meet at the same place in HMB as the Coastal Century ride next week? I'll PM you with my contact info. :)
Thanks!

Man - that sounds good. I'm going to have to weasel out for tomorrow though, as I commited with a friend to ride out here tomorrow morning. We need to plan this, though - I definitely wanna ride out there with you. What are you doing Sunday? :D

I was thinking of riding from San Mateo to Portola Valley and back - that's around 45 miles - starting at about 8-8:30. Slow pace, 15-16 mph, very little climbing.
Sunday, I go vertical. ;-)

My club is leaving at 8am for Diablo. The medium group will BART to Walnut Creek where they will go to Danville and climb Southgate. 48 miles. We meet at Central and Park in Alameda. The long group will be doing a complete round trip to Diablo via the same route with an additional 40 miles added for good measure.

OK! If you are interested, let's meet at 8:30 at the Half Moon Bay Coffee Shop, same as the Coastal Century ride meeting place http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=main+street+and+stone+pine+road,+half+moon+bay,+ca&sll=36.95477,-122.05698&sspn=0.015381,0.021415&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=17&iwloc=addr
We can nail down the route as we leave...
Anyone else want to join us?
You'll recognize me by my NorCal jersey :D.

Sorry, I'm busy on Sunday. But hopefully, you'll be out for the Coastal Century!
So will this ride be about 3 hours of riding at around 15 mph (depending on the hills)? Is there water along the way? I am about 90% sure I'll be there right now.

I guess MsIncredible isn't around, or she'd ride to the start from Foster City!
Thanks again Alan! We'll see you there!!

If I can I'll be toting my boy Luke in his new iBert Safe-T-Seat and towing baby Devany in the trailer.

Yes and yes.
Guys- Bad news. I didn't realize that my wife needs our car (with the rack) tomorrow. Unfortunately that leaves me without transportation to HMB. Sorry to flake at the last minute! (Unless someone around Berkeley/Oakland wants to give me a ride.)

Hee hee, I'm bummed I'll be missing out on riding with you guys.
However I'm hoping my friends here in Utrecht can manage to round up a rental bike for me for tomorrow morning, if so we're going to do a nice easy ride (she's pregnant, and it's super flat here in the Netherlands.)
If so that will make 5 countries I'll have biked in so far: US, China, Ireland, and Singapore are the others.
If I had more time on this trip I could add France and Switzerland to the list. Too bad I actually am supposed to get work done. :p

Four of us showed up in HMB for the ride Alan suggested - Alan, Gee3, NeCrO632, and me. It turned out to be a BEAUTIFUL day! No fog, not too windy, not at all hot. We headed south through the rolling stuff East of Rt 1. Man, that is some pretty country. Empty, too! A couple of the roads, we saw no cars, and only other bicyclists! After doing the rollers for a while, we headed up Tunitas Creek, turning around short of the steep part, and coming back down - something like Paris-Roubaix and the pave! We got to San Gregorio, then zipped back up 1, with Alan and I swapping pulls part of the way. Nothing like zooming along in the slipstream!
It was a lot of fun, apart from the bug I ate (ptui!), not TOO strenuous - just enough! - and the scenery was fantastic. Thanks to Alan for suggesting this!!
There should be some pics posted later - Gee3 or NeCrO632(I can't remember which one) had a camera.

It was a glorious day! You couldn't ask for better weather. We did about 3 hours, along beautiful trails with no traffic (well except for a little bit of Hwy1). Got some ocean, some rolling farmland, some redwoods, a babbling brook... This is what cycling is all about.
Thanks for coming out, Genejockey, Gee3 and Necro632!

I took two little ones on a ride. I was towing close to 80 pounds including diaper bag.
The toughest part was climbing the hills up to the San Andreas/Sawyer Camp Trail from my home.
22 miles.

Your little ones look pretty cute all stuffed in there and the oldest one looks so tired poor guy,;) .
Hat's off to ya 80lbs is a lot of weight to be towing around, :D.
I am still trying to decide if I want to looking at a bike set up to start pulling around my little one. Once he's old enough to enjoy riding with me I maybe want to drag him around to some places for the fun of it.
Do your little ones like riding back there with ya ?
Sounds like a great ride and I would love to join next time. I just need to get my second car running! I ended up hitching a ride to hayward and doing this nice one-way ride from Hayward to Orinda to Berkeley: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/3958056

We started the ride around 10am which is right around nap time for these little ones. Even when it isn't their naptime, the steady hum of the ride seems to lull them to sleep (at least with my kids). I went all the way down to the end of Sawyer Camp Trail and back (from San Bruno) and they slept most of the way (two hours). We got back just in time to watch their older sister's soccer game.
The biggest pain in the butt is that my trailer isn't easily transportable to other locales to ride in.

Alan, thanks for the tour! It was really cool and scenic. And the weather could not have been any better! Also, Alan and Doug, thanks for waiting for Andy and I while we labored up the hills and while I stretched out a bit when I started to cramp up some up the last couple of hills after the break at that small store.
Once I get some more time I'll try and post up the pics that Andy took with my camera.
Thanks again!
