Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - DIY Headlamp

I am planning to construct a halogen headlamp for night rides and winter commuting. I usually like to build my own things, which gives me a lot of satisfaction and saves money at the same time. The design I am considering is from here:

Anyone else used this protocol or any other? Please enlighten me with any information/experiences that you may have. Thank you guys and gals.

Halogen is a yellow dinosaur. Newer LEDs like Cree xre or seoul SSC. Not even close. Its like Night and Day. Only reason I have a halogen is the cree is so bright I get high beamed if I dont turn it off....

Light on left. 2 Cree xre p4. Driven at 500mah ea. 260 lumens. Host is Chinese copy of first cateye. Homemade electronics. Cree 8 deg optics thru Chinese cateye diffuser. Total invested $25. I would pit this light against anything on the market for $200+ bar none. Run time 3.5 -4hrs 4AA cells. better heatsink you could run at 1 a for 380 lumens for 1.5 hrs. Note: This is DIY extreme smd electronics made with tiny linear 3474 IC tweezers and magnifying glass.:eek: Light up the neighorhood:)

I was reading on candle power and they were talking about how 10w of halogen is going to be as bright as 10w of leds. And of course cheaper.

Sherpa: Thanks for your input, but I didn't get a word of what you said. Mind elaborating more? The 10W halogen I am considering building will give me upto 200 lumens and will have a rechargeable liion battery.
