Do not shoot the messenger…but I do remember seeing versions of this when I was a kid. I did not underline or annotate the text. But it is pretty funny by today’s standards. This is the last bit of havoc I can raise right before leaving the country.

This article makes me want to dig out my Gloria Steinem t-shirt.....:D

And this was in 1955. Evidently none of the women in my family ever read this article.

To be serious for a rare moment, it's amazing how far we've come since 1955. Then again, it's amazing how far we have yet to go.

I think I recall reading that that item was a hoax, not something that was printed seriously.

Aha...found it:

Snopes (http://www.snopes.com/language/document/goodwife.asp) says that there is a hoax. It supposedly originated in a Home Economics text book, but Snopes says no evidence of such a book can be found.

I believe someone asked recently what a troll (http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/trollshirt.jpg) was. Well, now you know.

I did that as well - but shortly after that I found that the locks on the doors had been changed.

I love that we've reached a point where that article seems unbelievably silly.

Ewwww. My mother didn't raise me with those expectations. But then, she was never the traditional wife even back then.

I love the line "Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it." That certainly has more meaning now.

Ive seen some film covering the exact same themes- I think they played it on MST3K, so I know it was
original- they didnt have the budget to make any realistic films that looked vintage.

Seems fair enough to me, perfectly sound advice....oh, just a minute

Iced coffee?....A little steamed milk?....Low fat?..... certainly dear, coming right up

Anyway, as I say, seems perfectly sound advice to me ;)

Isn't that the original script for "Leave It To Beaver"?

It's like when we made ashtrays for our dad in kindergarten. Even so, it's not 100% bad advice - "be happy to see him" - I'd be glad to have 5% coverage of this list.

I remember a friend sent this to me via e-mail. I thought it was pretty funny and it also reminded me of the old TV shows, Donna Reed, Father knows best. I printed it out and brought it home to show to my wife.

When I woke up, the EMT said that my skull was intact, but that I had a pretty good concussion. He said I was lucky that my wife grabbed the aluminum frying pan vs the cast Iron one right next to it. The aluminum molded itself right around my brain pan, but the cast iron one would have caved my skull in.

Lucky me

Already noted that Hermes made this header his last post. I am hoping that his stoker has not called for divine retribution and started to read the Tandem manual to him- All those rules about "Stokers never make mistakes"- "A stoker is allways right" and I wonder if there is any truth in that the Calling out of "Oi-The one on the back is not pedalling" now has a ring of truth to it.

Have any of you seen Mad men? If so, you've seen a wife like this.
