I decided it was time to lower the bars, don't have anything to cut the tube with...don't really want to anyways.

Does this make me non-conforming, and thus...cool by virtue of not being cool?

How cool...

The ride is so much better, also rotated them down a bit. Not sure why it took me so long.

I honestly wouldn't have noticed

I have a big ol' spacer on top of my stem as well. I've just never gotten around to taking it back to the bike shop to get the steerer cut. *shrug*

It just has a temporary look to it. This is common, to answer your question. Many people lower the stem and put spacers on top while trying to dial-in their bar position prior to cutting the steerer. Others never cut the steerer, and adjust the number of spacers above and below year round depending on the time of year and the occasion.

I flipped my stem and removed all spacers to facilitate a better TT time. See attached pic. You think I care or that it bothers me how "ugly" it is? I simply don't have the bawls to cut my CF stem for looks!

But, it's workin'. I don't give a right fark if others have a problem with it. TQ, baybuh, if what you have is workin' for you, just laugh at anyone who "poo-poo's" it. That's the best revenge, as you leave 'em standin' in your dust. ;)

I have a big one above mine and a couple below. For touring I like to move it up in order to sit back and enjoy the view.

I do think it ooks beter cut, but it's hardly necessary unless you want to loose teh grams.

I had to remove the left over stem on mine so my chest doesn't get impaled in my aero tuck. (chest rests on handlebars)

Sounds like a mid-life crisis to me. The woman is out of your life and you throw caution to the wind. What next red meat?

Are my operations free now? Cuz...that could come in handy.

Only if, in the course of working on your bike, you joined the military. ;)

I doubt Dr. Pete would charge you to operate on your tube.

Seems like most guys would want to make it longer. *shrugs*

Sooner or later it's gonna start dragging on the ground, i'm just not sure how keen i am on that.

I've got more post above my stem on my Flyte than that. Most fork specs say that you should have a couple mm's of spacer between the stem and top cap anyways.

Like i said, i had already cut it. That was a year ago though and i wanted a more aggressive setup. My fork "manual" actually told me to cut it 2-3mm shorter then the stem. Doesn't matter much to me :o

The only thing keeping me from lowering mine all the way and flipping the stem is that it'd get in the way of the brake cable guide. I'd have to switch from cantilevers to calipers, and meh to that. :p

(Pardon the crummy picture. I was too lazy to take the bike down or to put my camera together all the way.)

I suppose I've been Dr. Peted for a while now...Bonus points because I'm riding Leader as well.

There is an argument to keeping a little extra length on the stem for strength and resale purposes. If you're into that sort of thing.

...I was just present at the San Diego Velodrome Swapmeet this year...was able to get the 796r frame and fork for a really good deal.

It's a fine frame, but I'm pretty sure the Alu frames are more solid and more responsive.

I found myself with $300 more to spend on a frame and OCP took over. I was hypnotized by the carbontasticalness.
