Thanks for the link. I knew that hill from 4th-6th near my place was a pain in the ass, albeit a short one.
SI Wins within the 5 boroughs! Who would've thunk it?

Ok, I am going there tonight. I will zero out the GPS and try again. I will report tomorrow what the results are (good or bad). I hope you guys trust that I am not a liar.
True to my word, here is my report:
I wont tell you about the weather or the amount of people in the park because I don't want anyone to think I am trying to make excuses. So I will present only the facts, hoping people will do a little research to figure out the whole equation.
I did three laps, and my best trys on the hill this night are as follows:
Lap 1: 33.1 mph
Lap 2: 33.4 mph
Lap 3: 34.2 mph
Does anyone have some suace to make this crowe taste better?

Seriously, nice ride Matty, wish I made it.
This crow, is this a new Mexican dish you tried after the last ride?

I was back again this morning. This time I had myself up at 29mph at the crest and was able to get to 34+ on the descent, and when I thought I was going all out I pushed it even harder. That's only a 5mph increase in speed on the incline.
The only way it is possible to go faster is to start faster, which is possible in a race pack when the road is completely closed to others, but I doubt it could be done solo when the park is open to all. That would just be reckless.

I'm looking forward to taking my new bike to Prospect Park a little later this evening -- nothing beats Prospect in the summertime evenings: you've got the smell of barbecuing in the air, sometimes a few bats flying around, the drum circle near the south side, and sometimes concerts near the 9th street entrance as you do laps. Superior to Central Park!

You've described it perfectly.

This morning's race - http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/6222669
No breaking of the 40mph barrier today. We got neutralized at the beginning of the down hill section at our last lap by the Pro123. We had to slow down to let them pass. In fact, we don't even have a winner. The last lap was a mess with the Pro123's passing and yelling. The organizer wanted to start a 1 lap make up race after all the other races are over. I didn't want to wait so I rode home.
Times-Up ride tonight through Prospect Park - anyone interested?

G- hope you had a great ride!
I had a family reunion over at the Marriott in Dwtn Bklyn. Some of the nicest people in the world are Foosters! Henria86 put me up tonight in his Foo Crib so I didn't have to drive all the way home to Yonkers. He not only has a cool crib but a great family as well. I'm lucky to have met some great people through BF.

Great ride, Henri and Dave (jeebusaurousrex) early this morning. This is definitely the time to ride! I felt stronger, even though the stomach virus or whatever I've had still is there.
It's funny, while Henri and Dave were pulling ahead I took a little recovery and rode along side a bike cop who was pulling one of those heavy Police bikes up the hill. He was just a kid, practically! I felt bad for him, they didn't even give him a water bottle.
There was another group that kept a nice steady pace up the hills (about 15 mph) and I hung back with them on two of the climbs.
Looking at how improved Henri (Mr Tour de France) and Dave (Tour de France, Jr.), there's only one way to get better at this sporta and that's by riding as often as possible.

If by Tour de France you mean riding a half-assed bike at a half-assed pace, you got me all figured out! :D
Boy I took one hell of a power nap when I got home. Waking up that early on a weekend is unnatural...
Glad to hear it - hoping to make Tuesday!

Nah, we just seem marginally faster because we can coast down hill. :D
Probably going to do a quick couple of laps tonight if anyone wants in.
Times-Up ride this Saturday night by the way.
I wanna be like you guys!! I have a touring bike (Trek 520) and have gotten it up to 39.7 mph down that big hill, but going up the Grand Army hill, I am in the 30front/32rear combo and people are walking up the hill faster then me.:o
wow - a man after me own heart
I think I have a psychological block with that Grand Army hill.
me too - only time I ever bonked in my life was there. well, right after - was zooming around the park one last time after pootling around (5-7 mph or so), not eating all day and then trying to do a 17-20 mph circuit....okay till I finished that hill (at about 10 mph), and then I collapsed (literally) by the farmer's market...very scary experience.
I'd actually like to go back and ride that sucker again. Definitely prefer Prospect to CP overall, but we live in Queens, so hate to drag the car out to go to Brooklyn....
