Advocacy & Safety - Good morning! Near death and a hit and run!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What a way to start the day.

Story (http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=77307) and the obligatory asinine comments (http://www.topix.net/forum/source/kusa/T42I3G9GCSMN818O7) that go with it.

Hope he's ok

Had me worried there, James. I thought YOU'D been hit!

Terrible, and all too common around here. The police really don't seem to care, and that's a VERY sad thing to have to say.

Indeed.

But actually, I kinda liked the the "bicycles need loud pipes" suggestion.

The blatant racism in some of the comments is truly depressing. I thought Colorado was a little more progressive than that, but apparently not.

It's hardly surprising, really. I live in Albuquerque, and because we have such a diverse population, we're much more relaxed and respectful of each other here.

Wow! it's hard to tell which it is that Americans hate most - cyclists or foreigners.

<scratches head> I've lived here all my life and I honestly couldn't tell you, either.

What tickles me are the unabashed nationalists who spout off on comment boards (like this one) (http://www.futuregringo.com/index.php/2007/09/13/speak-english/)about speaking English yet fail to use proper English grammar themselves

Yeah on many message boards all it takes is one "damn illegal" or "speak english" comment to ignite a volley of back and forth trite dribble, all of which has been seen, said, and heard before.

And the FAR MORE important issue in this case is an issue of two human beings: A guy biking to work, and a F-cker that sailed into him and drove the hell off without thought to the person he just mowed down. In cases like that it's simply not relevant as to the country they're in, and the language they speak.

crap, i ride through that intersection daily. it's in a relatively diverse neighborhood. many cyclists, many immigrants. i feel like we get along great. lots of smiling and waving.

i feel most threatened by the large car drivin'/suburban-livin' "tourists" who pass through the neighborhood for the great mexican food before returning to outskirts of town to complain on the internet about immigrants.

May I respectfully nominate that as post of the week? +100
