Well today I tried some creative mechanics trying to remove my new 105 cranks. I didn't have the Park puller for splined, all I had was a Lifu one. So got this crazy idea, that if I could just stick something in there to push on the axle edge while I turned the puller it would pull the crank off.
Insert copper penny!
So after several good turns it dawns on me that the crank is not coming off. Well. I removed the puller only to find that the penny and part of the puller is sandwiched into the hollow part of the axle! AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
Fortunately for me, the sandwiching was not that bad and I was able to remove the pieces, and inflict no damage to the crank or axle.
I laugh now, but damn that could have been ugly.
Anyone else have stories of similar workshop blunders?
