I have an EZ Sport AX recumbent that I am considering converting to an e-bike. Specifically I am looking at the EcoSpeed 750 Watt mid-frame motor with a 20 Ah lithium ion battery. I have been looking around on the net and seen some positive comments about this configuration and I have been corresponding with Brent from ExoSpeed who has been very helpful in making suggestions and providing documentation. Actually Brent suggest the 600 W motor with the 15 Ah battery, but I'm into over-kill.

I'll be using the bike for 20 - 25 mile rides with moderate but long hills. The EZ Sport is a great recumbent, but it is a dog going up hills and the electric motor should help quiate a bit. Also, I weigh about 250 pounds and although I ride quite a bit, I could use a little assist on the hills.

What are your thoughts on this configuration? I had considered using a hub motor, but I understand you have to drill the drop outs to 9mm to fit a hub motor and I don't want to do that.

I have a Bionx p-350 and a crystallite 406 motor and i didn't have to drill out the rear drop outs. With the crystallite i ran into overall width problem, so it is on a 5 sprocket freewheel bike now (CCM). The motors went on "standard" bikes, a CCM echo and a Norco LRT. The Bionx system is really neat, fits nice, the regen feature is awesome. How large are the drop outs on your bike?
