Right now my main bike is a basic road bike but, seeing as I'll be riding this winter I was wondering about using a different bike. My dad owns a construction company so the guys who work for him are always finding old bikes and what not and bringing them back to the shop and leaving them there. I recently brought one of them home and I thought I could use it as a winter bike. It is an older mountain bike with a fair amount of ground clearance. I got it in working shape, it just needed a new chain, tubes, a tire, and lube. It has basic knobby tires. Would it be better to convert it to being a single gear bike? If you need pics, I will post them up as soon as possible.

Thanks

A bike like that is just perfect for the winter. You might need to add fenders and some better winter tires but it might work as is pretty well. THe conversion to single speed is a matter of choice and makes the bike easier to clean and more trouble free and lighter. All of which are good things in winter.
