"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Mt. Tam Reports?

Anybody? It was a very nice event, with awesome weather, I'm sure I wasn't the only one out there.

I had a good race. I was able to finally dig deep and give just about all I had during an event and finish with a respectable time (for me). If I want to join the climbers club next year, the work ahead me is pretty clear and I look forward to it. Nice way to wrap things up for the year: a teammate (El Rey) who killed me consistently all year on hills, only ended up being 26 seconds faster than me.

Looks like Pizza Man got second in the P/1/2 field. First was Lucas Euser of Team Slipstream (only 18 seconds ahead).

Things were fairly friendly for the first 4 flat miles, but as soon as we started the climb Euser threw in an acceleration like I've never seen before. Everyone tried to stay with it, and a couple guys were able to get to his wheel and hung on for a minute or so, but soon blew up. I was going as hard as I could to close the gap, but after about 30 seconds decided to settle in to my own pace. After a few minutes I had gone by everyone who had tried to stay with Euser and was leading a small group of 4 chasers. I threw in a few accelerations to try to bridge the gap (and drop a couple guys), but it seemed he was always about 10-15 seconds ahead.

By the top of the main climb section I had 1 guy left on my wheel. He didn't want to do any work, but told me that he would not go by me at the line, so I just TT'd over the last 4 rolling miles. Try as I could, I just couldn't close any distance. Still, I was very happy with my time, a PR by 32 seconds and faster than last year's winning time.

Last year Euser beat me by 19 seconds, this year it was ony 18, so I should catch him by the time I'm 55. :D

It always amazes me that someone will show up and race cat5 and post a time better then the majority.:rolleyes:
