How about a thread to say a quick note about whatever movie you just saw and whether it was any good or not. Preferably movie at the theater, but let's not be too picky.
I saw 3:10 to Yuma yesterday.
I was really hoping this would be good because I love a good Western, but it failed miserably. Acting was pretty good from Russel Crow and Christian Bale, but so many other flaws made it pretty horrible. Story was plain and predictable. It had many of the typical Western flaws like all the bad guys missing by an inch with every shot, but the good guy hitting targets dead on every single time even when pulling out quickly from an angle to shoot a guy on the rooftop, etc... My favorite was a guy at the beginning who got shot almost point blank in the belly, was taken to town to have bullet removed by the veterinarian and he was up and on his feet within minutes and part of the posse that was taking the bad guy to Yuma.
I give 2 out of 5 stars.

Superbad
For what it was it was hilarious. Michael Cera learned sooooo much from arrested devlopment.
I would say 4 out of 5 stars

The Halloween remake is terrible. I love a good horror movie, and I give a lot of leeway to movies in this genre, but this has almost no suspense and just goes so far beyond belief as to be laughable.
The holes in the plot are enormous, but the biggest one (and this isn't really giving anything away) how exactly did Michael Myers know where to find Laurie? And what she looked like? She was an infant when he last saw her, and all of a sudden, he's standing like a mighty oak, watching her.
But mostly it was disappointing because there was almost nothing done to set up the scenes, to make them suspenseful or exciting.

Most recently saw 'Shooter'. Bit of a cookie cutter movie, but not too bad.
Best movie seen recently; 'Nacho Libre' - comedy gold.

Laura (http://imdb.com/title/tt0037008/) - good stuff if you're into noir-ish old movies.
Before that, Spaceballs.

I was impressed with The Prestige, currently on cable. The plot revolves
around the murderous professional jealousy between two turn-of-the-century
English stage magicians. There is a nice subplot featuring Nikola Tesla, nicely
played by David Bowie.
There are two great plot twists---one occurs in the last minute of the film and
the second in the very last frame (so brief you might miss it!).

Christopher Nolan is becoming one of my favourite directors. I've seen Batman Begins, The Prestige, and most recently Memento. All terrific films.

The Borne Ultimatium.
Great action flick. Should be an award winner for best editing. The movie was never static. Nicely ties up the trilogy. I'll probably buy the box set when it comes on DVD. I caught the Prestige too on cable, and my 20/20 hindsight kicked in a day later. Yeah, great twists, and if I had paid better attention, I would have caught on earlier.

KT, I liked 3:10 to Yuma. It reminded me a bit of Lonesome Dove...people as real as you or I, but leading short and brutal lives in which right and wrong, not surviveability and convenience are the deciding factors. Just my take on it.

Eastern Promises.
I thought it was a very good film. It is rather graphic. Sex, violence and rather disturbing themes and people. It was both over the top and realistic, not a comfortable combination.
If you are looking for heros in the simple sense and happy feeling at the end avoid thi slike the plague. If you are up for something disturbing and thought provoking you might like it.

Yeah, I just went to this one too. Sometimes I love Cronenberg, sometimes I hate him. This movie was a keeper. The cartoonish elements didn't work very well within the irony of History of Violence, but they do work here.

Fracture...Sir Mr. Hopkins is sensational as the bad guy. Very good movie worth watching. A
Road Hogs...sucks! Here you have a fantastic cast of quality characters turned into a made for TV bubble gum movie....awful. D-
Blades of Glory.....not the funniest...gets carried away with stupid non funny humor. C-

Yeah, this is a fantastic action movie. Sometimes Greengrass overdoes the hand-held, shaky camera bit, as with the last Bourne movie, but I agree that Ultimatum came together.
I guess some hack has been writing more Bourne novels. Maybe we'll see a few more of these down the road.

The last movie I saw was Initial D, the 2005 live-action movie based on the popular Japanese manga and TV series about drift racing. I'm not into anime or anything like that, but I watched it purely out of curiosity. The reason: it's a Japanese movie in every sense of the word, but it was produced by China! For some, this might not be such a big deal, but I thought it would be really interesting to see how the Chinese portrayed Japanese culture, from the sense of fashion and style, to male-female relationships, to home life. And it was pretty interesting to see. The movie itself wasn't that great, and the racing scenes were sort of repetitive, but it was an interesting study in cultural perceptions.
As far as the theaters, I think the last movie I saw was Superbad. I enjoyed it, but probably because I could relate to a lot of what the characters were experiencing... sorta... :p
