Fifty Plus (50+) - Most dispiriting road signs?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

There was a thread here a while ago about "Who used to compete" as a cyclist
I should have contributed, but I didn't
But when I was about 17, I sneaked into the national finals for the English Schools Cycling Association's circuit race. Three laps of a 3 mile circuit on an old disused USAF airfield in the East of England, then used as the test track for Lotus racing cars
I remember clearly grinding into a headwind towards signs showing the shape of a distant bend and the advice "Max 120 mph". One of those things that still figures in bad dreams!!
I feel the same way now when I see a sign that says slow to 20mph for a curve.

The best signs are when you're nearing the top of a long climb and you see the yellow diamond with the picture of the Semi-Truck heading downhill and the note: "12% grade Next 6 miles" . . . or something similar.
On the other hand, when you're climing something steep at 5 - 6 mph for hours on end, a simple "45 mph Speed Limit" sign can be pretty discouraging!

You all ride slow enough that you can actually read signs? ;) The signs I hate are the "Caution 1 Lane Bridge Ahead."

In San Diego, I used to ride on the freeway between Genessee and Sorrento Valley Rd. on my way to work. Inevitably, a highway patrol car would pull me over. I would explain the applicable vehicle code that allowed me to ride on the freeway, and promise that the officer would see a sign at the next exit saying that "bicycles must exit freeway". The officer would roll their eyes and escort me off the freeway. As we passed the sign, I would point to it and wave to them as they pulled away and I descended back to street level.

The worst two signs I ever saw on a ride was when I was on a long Distance offroad ride in one day- Eastbourne to Winchester in one day and 100 miles (The South Downs Way but in reverse.) The first one said Winchester- 34 miles- The second one an hour later said Winchester 38 miles- We got lost.
