Southern California - MTB night ride?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey everyone. Can I interest anyone in a night MTB ride up STT or some other trail? My work is sponsoring a few coworkers and myself for the 24 hour adrenaline race this coming weekend. I have an HID light but don't want to ride alone, any takers? just PM me if you have any interest.
Drew are you out there? Maybe James?:D

Humm, STT would be a nice night ride for sure, my cheap light only goes for about 90 minutes though.
I may upgrade to LED this fall though. Prolly a cateye Triple or Double shot with the 4hr run time

Ohhhh....I wish. :o But I need a beginner's ride on a fire road before even considering going on a trail at night. But great idea! :)

Well??? When???
How about in the next couple of weeks? :) I'll take the Red Baron over and have him serviced and a new saddle put on. I can then go on a mountain bike ride.
And since I'm NOT doing the Fall Solvang Double, I've decided my riding for the rest of the year is for fun and experiences only. So, I really am being sincere when I say I want to do a beginner's mtnbike ride. How about Sunday, 9/30, in fact?

Lots of beginner trails in the San Gabriels and Verdugo Mts. I'm starting to miss riding my mtb.

Well, then, if I planned a beginner's mountain bike ride with Herb, would you want to join? :)

Yeah...we need someone to show us the ropes...and that is certainly closer than Carbon Cyn...but that place is very nice..and I would do that as well!

Okay, I'll start an interest thread if you guys would like. There may be some other riders on here who'd like to join and we could have lunch after. Okay? And I'll throw out some dates. George, you can only do Saturdays, right? Or could you swing a two-three hour mtnbike ride on a Sunday? :)

If interest in doing some night rides - check out the Irvine Ranch Land Reserve (IRLR - now The Irvine Conservancy) schedule for October - 3 night rides are listed. These rides are for experienced riders with the proper equipment.
Go to irlrtrust.org, activities, October 2007 and look for North County/The Nature Conservancy rides in Limestone Canyon.
I checked the schedule and there's a night ride scheduled for Black Star Canyon 10/2, a Limestone ride 10/25 and a "Halloween" ride 10/30. You have to sign up in advance for these rides online.
If you need any information let me know.
If anyone is interested in a "beginner's" ride here in Orange County let me know. I know all the easy trails!

Carbon Canyon or OC trails I'm in for, any deeper into LA mean more traffic for me.
I'm game for riding Aliso Woods full figure 8 loop (18 miles) or riding up STT.
Kevin,
They hijacked your thread...
Night ride, I'm goning to look into a light this weekend and we'll see whats up.
Performance has a huge sale on now, maybe Mynewt (sp) is in the works!

Eh I don't mind that they hi-jacked my thread. I am kind of glad they did because now there is some interest brewing for future more planned rides.
The main goal of this thread was to find someone who would like to ride before Saturday. I wanted gain some night riding experience before the race on Saturday/Sunday.
Maybe someone will pop up.
jsigone: Is it legal to ride in Aliso Woods at night? I'd like to ride Whiting but from what I know you can't ride in there at night. STT would be fun to ride at night, I've ridden the luge once and gone to old camp prolly three times with Drew before (during the day).

If your light lasts for 90 minutes and is a bright light, buy a cheesy LED light for the climbing and then use the better one for down hill. That is my strategy for this coming weekend at the race.

If anyones interested, the Fullerton loop is great for night riding and getting your "feet wet" riding at night...
I'd be down, I got an HID light and can Sheppard one other rider since its so bright, but the pace would be alot slower...

Don't know Aliso well enough to answer that. If it's a state park the same rules would apply to Carbon right?
STT would require a good light to run it if we do the whole thing. Going up and doing the Luge would be fun too since I've never done it.

Aliso doesnt allow night riding.... most places dont unless you want a ticket or your bike taken

Which is why I recommended the IRLR rides...
Right now the only places I know that are open to night riding are Blackstar Canyon and Fullerton Loop but many enter Aliso, Laguna Coast, Limestone and Whiting illegally.

hum things are different then down here, hwe can ride anywhere down here, but not any of the trails are on State parks, most are around lakes. The only place that I think is a state park and locked is Sycamore but I wouldn't ride there at night....some big cats over there....

Yes STT is open at night.
Last summer I was told that Wednesdays used to be the night to ride at night. It wasn't that large groups would join up to ride but it was established as a night people were on trail. Not sure if this holds true this year.

In Fullerton...
OK off of Berkeley - park in the lower courthouse parking lot. I suggest you go the first time with someone or you will get lost.
