you can't be serious....

Why not, the articles listed San Diego as a hot spot for motorist congestion and idling... sorry if you don't believe it. However, I can certainly relate to the home prices... and I also believe that not everyone has a "3 hour commute."

"Rails to Trails" is a nice idea. However, many of those old rail lines need to be resurrected as commuter rail and used for the purpose which they were originally built.

+1 (and I don't know why I didn't think about it myself)

My sister & her family have been in Germany for almost two years now, and I don't think they've ever really needed a car. The bus & rail systems are so widespread that a car is just not necessary.

When my parents and I went to visit, we used buses, a couple cabs, and light, medium, and heavy rail for transportation. Terrifically easy for newbies like us, especially since we didn't have to worry about driving & navigating ourselves.
