I'm converting my 70s Mondia to fixed and was pondering chainrings when I ran across the term "bash ring". Can anybody tell me how these are used? It looks like a chainring with no teeth. Friction?

a bash ring is used for things like trials and urban assault riding and bmx. they're usually a lot thicker than a regular chainring. it protects the teeth from damage when you jump up onto a ledge. they fit on the spider where the outer ring would go on a mountain bike.

somebody else probably has a better description than me though.
