Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a Trek 930 SHX with the original off-road tires. I am considering a set of "around town" tires and rims for just that use, "around town". Is it too much bother and/or expense to do this or should I just buy another bike?
Maybe if you're switching them out all the time, but if you're going to be leaving the new tires on, I say go for it!
I changed out my tires and rims a looooooooong time ago, and now I ride around town and do long rides. It's the best thing I could have done for my bike.

Buying new rims and tires specifically for road use is a very good, practical idea. But if you find yourself changing every day, you might get sick of it very fast. Then a new bike sounds more appealing. :)
