Hoping cooler temps will have me out riding more. I have ridden less this year than any year I can remember, and that after buying a road bike last Sept. so I would ride more, as I wouldn't have to put my mtn.bike in the truck and drive to trails. But didn't happen. Don't know if the weather this year, or putting in more time with the horses is the reason, but just haven't had the initiative to ride. Looking forward to fall, and even early winter, was never a "summer person" to start with. Maybe I'll manage to get some miles in this year yet. Did go for a short ride this morning (first in a few weeks)--didn't feel bad, but sure would like to be back in the shape I once was--gotta get more rides in!!!
Fall? I know no one has any sympathy for San Diegans regarding weather, but we seem to be going directly from summer to winter this week. :)

Fall here means increasing winds and decreasing temps. Not really ready for that yet!!

We had rain, in fact, a thunderstorm, roll through this afternoon and evening. In this part of California we average fewer than 10 T-storms annually, and this is early in the season, too. We were pleasantly surprised. We've had no rain since April, which is typical. I'd forgotten how much I love the smell of rain and wet yard. (Someone remind me of this post in 4 months, when I'm complaining of the rain. Thank you.)
Temps have been cooler as well. I love fall. The colors, the Indian Summer, the bluest skies, the smell of rotting vegetation in the woods -- Yeah, I'm all for it.
Oh, and there's the difference between riding in 106* heat and riding in 77*. Must be fall!

It's still summer here in southern Ontario, high of 27C (90F) yesterday and sunny. I like the fall weather, but it makes commuting more difficult - you have to wear warm stuff in the mornings (overnight temp went down to +3C 37F last week) but then carry it on the way home because it's too warm out.
I don't like the early darkness of fall, I was out mountain biking last night after work, it started getting dark around 7:15 - That's too early!!!

Our leaves are changing. The poplars have the bright yellow leaves of fall interspersed with the green leaves of summer.
I've been wearing an undergarment, jersey and windbreaker, tights and full length gloves first thing in the morning. Then it is heating up to in the 80's. Now I know why I have that huge wedge - to carry all of that as it warms up!

Still in the 90s with high humidity down here. I am also looking forward to fall/winter.

Fall is definitely here in NYC. Went out riding last Sunday am and it was only 50 degrees! Wished I had worn my long sleeve jersey. Drove the bikes upstate on Tuesday and wore a jacket over the jersey till I warmed up on a couple of hills. Went apple picking after the ride. The trees are beginning to turn and will probably peak in a few weeks.
Fall is our favorite season in Michigan. Generally cool, dry, and clear, plus of course the changing leaves. Pretty soon we're checking our routes to see where they pass by a coffee shop or cider mill. And it's much easier to stay warm in cool weather than to cool off in hot weather.
Great riding!
John E I was thinking the same thing. A week ago I was sweating bullets on my evening ride. Last night I was freezing, looking for every hill I could climb to warm up. Actually I just love this weather (and honestly our winters are awesome too right?) but know shortly it will probably heat up.
Right now it's drizzling outside. That's very welcoming and I hope we get more of the same. I know you mid west and east coast people don't understand but rain to us So Cal folks is like gold. We can't get enough (and sadly there has been too little :()

Pretty soon you'all will be telling us how much fun it is to ride in sub freezing weather.:(
All in all I'd rather be shoveling sun than snow. I vote to bring back summer.

I really prefer spring and fall for riding. Summer often has high humidity and that gets to me faster than plain high temperatures. As long as the temperature is above 20F and there is no snow or ice on the roads I'll be out there riding:)
