What will be necessary to change to upgrade to this new 2004 Shimano Dura-Ace. Cassette is obvious, but what else???

Chain, rear derailleur, rear hub/freewheel and brifters for sure. I'm not sure if the FD, crank and BB will be required for smooth shifting or what.

I would suspect the entire drive train: Ergo shifters, Cranks, BB * derailleurs. I haven't looked on Shimano's web site, but they may have something posted.

the new cassette won't be backwards compatible with the current HG freewheels?? that will mean tons of people dumping their fancy wheelsets on ebay.... and prices going down too!!! :)

I don't think so. At most, people will just replace their freehub body. Also, according to CyclingNews... (http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?id=tech/2003/news/jul25)

Will the new Dura-Ace be compatible with existing nine-speed wheels?

Yes. The ten-speed cluster is very slightly wider than the old nine-speed, but will fit on a nine-speed hub with just a little over-hang. However, the new ten-speed hubs and wheels will only take a ten-speed cluster.
