BMX - BMX bike help
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Ok I have decided to start riding a bike again after about 4 years (16 years old now) and went to a local bike shop. When I went in, the bmx bikes I saw (Haro) seemed kinda small. Is that abnormal or am I just not used to it because its been 4 years. Is there anyway I can make sure that the bike I am getting is the right size? Example would be most normal bmx bikes have XX'' inch tires or XX" frames. Thanks for any help.
X represents a number not X as in Xtra Large

From what i remember you can get frames in pro, xl, or xxl.
So all those BMX bikes are pretty much the same size except you can get longer frames? 20 inch wheels is the norm? If so I'm going to go ahead and buy one. Thanks for the help. :)

20 inch wheels. most frame lengths are between 18 and 21 inches long. although it might not sound like much, the difference between a 20" and a 20.5" and even a 20.75" frame is very noticable. also the rear end vary in length too from 13.75 on a flatland frame to 15 on a race frame. and of course most have about a two inch range of adjustability.
Ok thanks alot for the help guys, I appreciate it.

Wheels are generally 20 inches (outer tyre diameter), but there are 24 inch BMXs available (racers, not really freestyle). Frame size is pretty much what Sloth said; the size you go for depends one what you want it for. Flatland frames are generally smaller than street/park and race frames. I'm no expert when it comes to racing, but I'd guess that racing frame size is more dependant on body size than anything else. Anyway, a good starting point, for freestyle at least, is 20.5-21 inches, especially if you don't know what type of riding you want to do (I started with a 21 inch bike, but now ride an 18.75 flatland bike).
Hey well I finally bought a bike and I started riding around and realized I don't know how to do ANY tricks except for this kinda bunnyhop that I learned long ago and from reading several forums I found out that this bunnyhop was wrong =\
The way I did it -
Hmm I guess we'll see where I go from here, if I can try to do a real bhop and all . Anyways thanks for all the help guys.
