First post here. Been lurking for a bit. This afternoon I ripped off the shifters and the front derailer. Adjusted the rear to sit where it's been for a while. Rode around the neighborhood and felt strangely liberated. Though there was less than a pound of stuff in the zip lock bag when I was done the bike felt more spritely. Probably just a mental thing, but I think the bike was happier.
The bike is just a 2000 or so Rockhopper with various stuff that a friend put together. It's wearing skinny slicks now because I've been riding only pavement for peace and personal enjoyment. All those gears were getting in the way. I'll finish converting it the rest of the way in the next few weeks.
Thanks for the forum. Good stuff.
